I am using bookshare with elementary students on a chromebook.  There are some frustrating points that I am hopeful you can help me with.
1. finding the page= i go to the content pages and type in the page.  It opens to the correct page.  When we try to scroll down using the touch screen it scrolls to the end of the book.  We can't go back and have to do another search for the page.  Very time consuming and frustrating
2. Is there a way to bookmark the pages or highlight on the pages?  The students need to refer to specific pages and quotes but have no way of marking their place.
3. What is the difference with downloading the book versus using the web reader.
Thank you for your help.

I too, would love to hear some answers to these questions. While the BS Web Reader is convienent on the Chromebook I would love to know better alternatives even if they are subscription based.

Thanks!
Britten

You might try modifying the page settings, you can change from scrolling to facing pages, which at least may help from going to the end of the book in terms of using a swipe across on the touch screen.  The text auto advances as it is reading in the scrolling mode, which may be conflicting with the touch screen, and "overreacting" causing the jump to the end of the book

The web reader does not have bookmarking or highlighting built in to the tool.  There are different applications that you can use for those tools, some in conjunction with the web reader (such as Snap and Read Universal by Don Johnston, or Read and Write by Texthelp-but these are not free tools).  Capti is also an option but again is a paid resource.

You cannot download a book to a chromebook-if you choose download in the web reader, it places the zip file in the google drive of the person logged in to the chromebook, however it is not a a readable file independently .  If you download a book to a computer, you have to have a tool that can read the DAISY file.  There are readers available such as Read Write from Texthelp (Mac and Windows), Kurzweill 3000 (windows only), Capti, Dolphin Easy Reader.

There are also a number of programs that work on iOS devices or Android devices if you are looking at other platform options.
