Hi Folks! A heads up that we will likely begin beta testing in January
instead of December. Sorry for the change in plans, but we want to
make sure the app is where it needs to be for outside testing.

We'll keep everyone updated as we go.

Thanks for your patience!

Sure, no big deal. I'm ready any time. Are you people aware of the
other app that's currently being tested that's supposed to support
bookshare as well? It's called darwin reader.

Will it support Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich? By January, ICS will
be released on a few devices, Nexus Prime later this month and HTC
Ville in December, and I'm sure many others by January. A variety of
current/recent Android phones will be able to upgrade to Android 4.0,
which has lots of accessibility API, SDK, web browser, touch screen,
and a variety of other benefits to developers and users.

It will be great if Benetech/BookShare could ensure that the app
utilizes and leverages all that Android ICS has to offer.

Hi Nimer! Yup, we're aware of Darwin Reader. As far as we're
concerned, the more apps there are to support DAISY, the better!

Hi Kevin! We're hoping to support as many Android flavors as possible,
including Ice Cream, and looking forward to learning more about its
enhanced accessibility features.

Best,

Paul

That's fine, I can start testing whenever you are ready, are either of these apps officially promoted by bookshare the way the IOS app is?

Hi Mike! The Bookshare Android app will eventually promoted by
Benetech in the same way that the iOS (Read2Go) app was. Because the
Darwin Reader is not a formal project of Bookshare it will likely not
be promoted directly.

At least your app will be released when you want, bookshare had to deal with apple's nonsense for several months before the app was approved, that's one advantage for android.
