Cloud Station is not only a sophisticated cross-platform syncing software, users can use it as a smarter means of backing up their personal computers. These are some benefits of using Cloud Station as your backup companion. First of all, real-time replication provides a better RPO, a shorter period in which data might be lost (un-recoverable) from your PC due to a major incident. Not only is it instantaneous, it will also help you save bandwidth drastically, compared to traditional backup which uses up large amounts of bandwidth at a given time. You can easily filter out the files within the same folder which you don't want backed up, by setting the file size or file type on your PC client. Cloud Station can also retain up to 32 history versions of a single file which Cloud Station allows you to restore to a PC client from the server (NAS) side.
I have a DS-211 and it's been chugging along for many many years. But it seems Synology is making it obsolete, as the new Synology Drive Server is not compatible and the Cloudstation client for Windows is no longer available. Is there another solution for simple free backup of my laptops to synology DS-211?
Synology Cloud Station Backup is a backup service that allows you to back up files from multiple clients to a centralized Synology product. Before backing up files on client computers, you need to install the Cloud Station Server software package on the host Synology product, and you must install Cloud Station Backup on each client computer you want to back up from.
Nowadays, there are many kinds of offsite backup solutions for data protection. NAS is one of the popular backup solutions that can keep your data safely and remotely. However, compared with NAS, cloud backup service is more popular among users recently.
As we all know, most cloud backup service offers huge backup space and useful backup features. And some of the cloud backup services support scheduled backup that can help you backup files from a local computer to a stable cloud server regularly and automatically.
If you need to protect your computer regularly, you can rely on a cloud backup service instead of a NAS. CBackup is a professional cloud backup service that offers PC cloud backup service and provides users with a scheduled backup feature. You can try it now!
Although there is no direct way to schedule Cloud Station Backup, you can also find two ways to backup files to Synology NAS with two free tools. And if you think the ways to protect your data are too complicated, you can also rely on one of the best cloud backup for Windows - CBackup to protect your data regularly and easily.
Cloud Station Backup does exactly what it claims it does, and it seems to work well. Depending on your Cloud Station Server settings, it can save up to 32 historical versions of files. In addition, backups are near real-time because clients will monitor local directories and backup files as they change. Despite this, the software does feel that its functionality has been used to extend the software to areas that were not originally designed.
For longtime users of Cloud Station, the installation is very simple, only need to pay attention. By default, Cloud Station Backup will use Catalog\Backup in your Cloud Station Drive and set it to out of sync. Also for reference only - Even if Cloud Station Backup is not installed, the full Cloud Station client will set the \ Backup directory as out of sync if the directory already exists. This is indeed a safe choice because synchronizing backups back to the second location on the computer wastes space. However, if, like me, there is already a \ Backup directory in Cloud Station and you want it to be synchronized, you need to select a non-default configuration.
The only problem I have encountered so far is the Windows client. When I configured the directory for backup for the first time, I often encountered an error and the directory was excluded from the backup. Going back and choosing it again will solve the problem and it will return to normal. This may be unique to the few Windows clients I have, all of which are Windows 7. I haven't encountered any problems with the Mac client yet. In other words, my experience is limited to some test recovery. Unless they are already familiar with the File Station user interface, the "rough-edged" user interface makes it impossible for me to use it as a solution for most clients.
Hi Everyone-
I am looking to expand the functionality of our Synology DS2415+ and would like to provide 20 remote (offsite) users with "private cloud" backup. Cloud Station (included with Synology DSM) works fine for me personally, however it requires Diskstation access to restore files. These remote users will need the ability to restore their own files (I've got enough to do without fielding those calls!). I saw that URBackup once worked but doesn't anymore.
For this I'm looking for more of a backup client, less of a drop box solution. Thanks for the Syncrify tip. The server was fairly easy to setup with the instructions on their site - even for this non-Linux guy. Syncrify does provide versioning on the server side, however it only offers scheduled backups - no real-time backups (ala TimeMachine or CloudSync). As such I feel like I'm half way there. It also has some cosmetic issues with Windows 10 desktop scaling, but that doesn't effect the functionality. I will keep looking, but it is good to know Syncrify is there if I can't find anything else.
The associated software, Synology Cloud Station Drive, is a backup solution that allows users to back up their files from multiple client computers. It's a part of Synology's suite of cloud services and applications. The software is designed to synchronize files across multiple devices, ensuring that users have access to up-to-date files.
As cloud storage is becoming more and more popular, AOMEI offers users its own cloud - AOMEI Cloud. You can backup files to AOMEI Cloud if you have an AOMEI account. You'll get 1TB free storage for 15 days after you sign up for an AOMEI account.
