Another very short story of Jack Reacher, like Second Son that we reviewed before.

A new handler called Cornelius Christopher asks Jack Reacher to go undercover with him on a secret mission. Four officers need to be clandestinely investigated, because one of them had ‘gone bad’.

OK, So Reacher goes there and one lady is killed in a road accident. He attends one meeting, gets exposed by one lady. However, she also shows interest in him and using his brain cells, he deduces who among the four is the culprit and why. Even who she is working for.

And, since he has those same brain cells, he realizes that it is a trap to get him killed and using this time his brawn, he goes free.

Very simple logic, based on very many presumptions for a real life detective to make, but then this is Jack Reacher.

Another surprise? I thought it was really a short story in book form, but the whole story seems to occupy only half of that small book. The plug for Lee Child’s next novel takes the other half!

6/10
