A very light hearted wildlife movie made by Warner Brothers in 1974. This does not have the stunning factor that is there, for instance, in the series called Life on BBC narrated by David Attenborough but it keeps the interest in the light hearted approach to the Namib Desert in Africa and the creatures that live in the various areas there.

The story of the tapping beetle, meerkats and their incredible curiosity, how the natives make use of the curiosity of the monkey to make these creatures “tell” them where the water is.. ingenious.

It is heart warming to see the tale of the weaver birds and their wooing their mate, to see the drunk animals on the overripe fruit of Amarali(?) fruit in the desert and the bird which seals the lady in a tree for her to lay her eggs and feeds the family until they are all ready to come out of hibernation.

It is heart rending to see the beasts so dependent on water in an area that can turn from a lake in the autumn winter to a complete desert in the summer and how birds are forced to abandon their young under some conditions – hundreds of them at a time!

It is amazing to watch the meerkats examine a Cobra out of curiosity and also to see how birds give warning of predators, including man, when they are out to hunt wild animals like zebras and gazelles.

But overall, a lightweight collection, with some interesting points, but focus more on comedy than wildlife.

Let us say a 6/10
