The historical Cypress Hill Massacre of Canada blended in nicely with
1940’s Hollywood scene in the story of a screen prompt writer with a
limp being sent to track and interview the elusive cowboy of
Hollywood.

It has its cinematic moments like the brutal murder of the movie
moghul on the day of the release of the movie but otherwise told in
an interesting mix of present and past, each with a constant stream
of tense moments

The intricacies of the cold weather of Saskatchewan freezing the
river and making it melt in spring, the unstated love between the
writer and the girl who gets him his prompt writer’s job and the
simply understated tone of the writing make this one of the better
books I have read.

A well told story.

I will give it a 6/10 in overall ranking.
