Yep I used 2x2 method with Lyla and it's BRILLIANT. As Ly was my first
dog I obviously hadn't tried any of the other methods but I really
really recommend at least trying this one.
It allows the dog to think about what they're doing, develop amazing
entries, and have speed right from the start. It helps if they are
used to shaping as they have to offer the behaviour of going through
to get the reward but once it's clicked that seems to be it - onwards
and upwards. You can move through the stages fairly quickly and can
always revisit parts later on if they slip back on certain areas.
The method really suited Lyla as she's not a dog that fails easily and
doesn't have brilliant bounce back once she fails, but she is a good
problem solver so it allowed her to think about the problem and as the
choice is fairly clear (go through the poles, get reward - go around
them, get no reward!) it allows the dog to get the reward quickly and
clearly from the beginning and put speed into it from the start too.
They really seem to get good understanding and reinforcement from
going through those first two poles.
I used stick in the ground poles from jump4joyagility (they come with
a spacer so you get the gap right) and they were only about £25 for a
set of six. It might be better to get ones on a metal base as they
don't move in the ground if you've got a dog that barges through, but
this was all I could justify forking out on and they've worked.
Definitely give 2x2 a try I would say!! xx

Detor has been shaped with everything so although eh can worry he is happy
to fail- doesn’t seem to worry him he just tries harder next time which is
why I think it should suit him :)
