Announcing Orientation for the Fall 2015 semester of The Girls' Program at New Settlement Apartments!
Orientation will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2015 from 6:30-7:30 pm at 1514 Townsend Avenue, Community Room 1 (Bronx, NY 10452). We are located between 172nd Street and Mt. Eden Avenue, near the 4 and D trains and the Bx 1, 2 and 11 buses.
We have free programs for girls ages 11-18 afterschool, evenings and Saturdays. All prospective participants are invited to attend orientation with or without a parent or guardian. Youth will hear about all the programs on offer this fall and have an
opportunity to sign up on the spot for classes of interest, meet instructors and returning participants, and ask questions.
Registration forms are also available in the main office at 1512 Townsend Ave. 8am-5pm Monday-Fri, or can be requested by mail or email, by calling program staff at (718) 716-8000 x119 or x133 or sending an email request. Registration is open to the
community; any girl in the appropriate age range may register, provided she can get to the program space and attend class regularly. However, space is limited! Enrollment for some classes may be closed or wait listed after Orientation.

Background
Now in its 10th year, New Settlement’s Girls' Program provides a safe space and supportive and challenging environment for girls and young women to gain leadership skills, express themselves creatively, explore college and career options, and learn to
protect themselves against violence, unplanned pregnancies and STIs. All classes are free and open to the surrounding community, but participants who are accepted to the program are expected to make a serious commitment to respect each other and instructors,
attend program regularly and actively participate in trips, performances and projects. High-school age participants have an opportunity to earn a modest stipend for participation in our G.O.A.L. program, which combines college prep, reproductive health education
and self-defense training. The Girls’ Program incorporates original programs developed by staff, as well as curricula licensed from Girls Incorporated. We also partner with Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, City Parks Foundation and Sadie Nash Leadership Project
to bring high quality programs and opportunities to the girls and young women we serve. Our Peer Educators are available (by request) to lead workshops in reproductive health, substance abuse education and establishing healthy relationships (for girls-only
OR co-ed groups) during the school day or in the after-school hours. Contact us with any questions!
