I have looked through all my bonsai reference books and can find no
mention of a mandarin tree in any of them. The tree looks like a form
of variagated privet (ligustrum) the british version version of which
is
a hardy hedging tree. This however was probably grown in China where
most trees of this type are given an S shape (in files see my winter
picture
of a privet). It will therefore not be fully hardy, it is not however
an "indoor" tree,
it is a tree which if treated well could survive some time indoors.
It should however
be put outside once the frosts have gone. Meanwhile choose a spot
that
provides as much light as possible. Water only when the soil has
started to
dry. If the soil you are using is what the tree came in then I
suggest a repot
in early spring using a more open compost. Don't use fertiliser until
early spring
and then use frequent dilute solutions. Trim to keep the tree in
shape. If you are really
interested then get hold of a bonsai book from the library or look on
forums such as
