Hi lankyshires,
Are you not worried about leaving wire on your trees during the freezing weather ? I have in the past lost branches in the spring when the trees start to leaf out due to wire being left on over winter. As the wire conducts the cold so much more. Ps I live in the south east.

No Brendan, I have never lost a larch through wiring over winter.
They are such hardy trees. I live about 20 miles south of the scottish
border
so winters are quite long.
The only time I have lost a branch was on an acer during the early
growth spurt in spring.
