Hi,

I've been trying to install Bonsai on some lab machines, but when I run the program, it comes up with this error message early into the installation:

bonsai install.png
This has happened on two machines running Windows 7 Professional. When I tried Googling the error, it comes up as common error for people trying to run Visual Studio... quite frankly the solutions are over my head and I couldn't figure out how they applied to installing Bonsai.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Julia

I have had the exact same issue recently. I tried to update Bonsai on my Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-bit) PC. But got the same error message. So far, after reading the forums on stackexchange: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/41185443/nuget-connection-attempt-failed-unable-to-load-the-service-index-for-source and github: https://github.com/NuGet/Home/issues/2880, I have tried:

1. Seeing if the proxy settings are off - I use the institutional network at work, so thought this may be an issue. But it looks like there was no proxy and internet options do not indicate this. Just to double check, I got the computer home and tried to reinstall, but same error came up. I also checked if the environmental variables under PC properties and system settings have a default proxy setting, however, I don't see a http proxy setting as one of the environmental variables.
2. Tried installing visual studio 2017 and the Nuget package manager. However, this also does not seem to resolve the issue.

Not sure what the issue is. I wanted to update Bonsai just to explore some of the newer features, however, this may not have been a good idea since now I am stuck with no bonsai.

There have been some reported problems when installing in Win7. Gonçalo described some potential solutions here:
If i understood correctly, the boostraper doesnt seem to work on win7, as a result, to update, you might be stuck with downloading the new release from the website. Might be worth to give it a try :)

good luck!

Great, thanks very much. Copying those config files in the Bonsai folder with the executables did the trick!

Copying the config files worked for me as well. Thank you!

Hi all,

I am having the same issue but installing the software in a Windows 10 computer. I have tried copying the config files as suggested in the linked answers but that didn't work for me and cannot find the way around it.  Is there anything else I could try??

Kind Regards,
Marcelo

Hi Marcelo,

This is odd and it's the first time I've heard about it. Do you have any more details that you could share about this? Were you ever able to fix it?

Hi Gonçalo,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried to fix it for some time but couldn't. In order to make it work in that computer, I am installing and updating  onsai on another computer and copypasting the application files to the other one to make it run as I cannot update it there. It might have to do with some Windows Group Policies but couldn't figure out what needed to be changed. Apart from that issue, the application runs perfectly in that device.

All the best,
Marcelo
