KB3140245 for 64bit win 7 is what I was attempting to load (2nd from bottom on update page) and I also attempted the last update on that page for x86 as well. Windows updates fails during run which wasn't always the case. Prior to the change in internet comms (TLS, https) 2 weeks ago windows update worked because I actually loaded one of the patches.
I ran windows update troubleshooter and it found 2 issues (Service Registration is missing or corrupt and Problems installing recent updates) and fixed but windows update still fails with same errors.

I have Malwarebytes on the machine and no issues have been found. Are you saying to re-install windows 7? This is a factory loaded OS and it worked for 4 months and only recently stopped working (3 weeks ago - windows update and some non-https websites) so re-installing wouldn't be my next step.
Any thoughts on the registry being down level or comms (TLS - http/https) since http on windows update is failing (HP box) while win 7 64 bit windows update on 2 Lenovo laptops accesses https successfully. Appears to be 2 different windows updates pgms based off logs as well.
