Quick update/ report 4.

ECD Program
Continue monitoring and evaluation to both centers, Umodzi-Mbame model
and Mango centre, whereby the implementation of boNGO EDC ideas are
taking place holistically.
There is good participation in the program at both centers and the
corporations between the parents and the teachers is great.

The attendance is still growing each day and there have been no
challenges so far this week only that it’s raining almost daily which
does not affect Mango centre any more.

boNGO (MDGs) Club/ Malawi essays reach the world.
The following is been done:
1. The detailed/brief orientation about the club/ program.
2. Setting up rules and procedures
3. Going through the possible MDGs points, others of their own
experience and other different issues they can write about
4. Meeting days/ every Tuesday, once a week/ 4 days a month at
14:30 at Nankumba secondary school.
5. Share/ discuss patrons responsibilities and that of boNGO
6. How the reward shall be given to the best students and
procedures.
7. Choosing the president & the vice of the boNGO/MDGs Club.

Next: They will start meeting this coming week(week7 respectively) to
start their work of writing quality essays to inform, educate,
entertain( developmentally) etc and share with others locally &
abroad.
The materials have been bought for writing essays and given to the
students (exercise books & pens, papers) and some for the patrons.
It was a good meeting, gathering &shared a lot.

Questions asked e.g.
For how long will the club run? What will happen to the members who
may leave the school and the club because of school fees? but they
rather want to continue participate in this club. How about those who
will graduate/ school leavers and would like to continue participating
in this club?
Answers,
The club belongs to you the members and is here to stay, run by you
and it’s a pilot program which may go to others schools if all goes
well. In terms of school leavers, graduates, they are free to continue
participating as they have been doing while at school. Regarding
member who may not be able to pay school fees and are in this club &
wants to continue, they are too welcome and continue with the club
matters.
Regarding failure to pay school fees, boNGO shall discuss probably
with the two school managements and see the way forward. (No any
promise made).
Children’s Corner
1. The children have finished planting their
sweet potatoes and the garden look good, managed well byNorman and the
many friends in the club.
2. The children are through with their
drawings, writings for their fellow school students in Switzerland to
see, learn and be inspired. Simone, how can i send them? May be will
ask David to help, otherwise all is done and set.
3. The school activities are going on well
with the teachers and the DAPP officer has started working with the
children/club too.

Quick update 5

ECD Program.

Monitoring both centers, Umodzi- Mbame& Mango

1. Umodzi- Mbame the attendance is now at 79 as of last week

2. Mango attendance was at 59

3. Both centers the feeding program is going on well

4. There is good participation of parents at both centers

5. Good coordination between parents, teachers, executive
committee at both centers

6. Good working environment and relationship amongst teachers

7. Chimwavi centre has started receiving vita meal from the feed
of the children now, which means Ntayamwana is the only remaining
centre and the executive is planning to finish up required structures
at Ntayamwana so that they can also be receiving the food stuff.

8. Continue involving myself in teaching with MANGO teachers
which indicates that new teachers are adopting and practicing when am
not there, which is encouraging and that now have three classes.

Children’s Corner.

1. Continue school activities with the teachers and the DAPP
officer.

2. Usage of the library now is more and encouraging and that some
of the community members are starting to use the library, not many.

3. Finishing working on drawings, writings, photos and local toys
and am likely to send them this week, have everything with me.

4. The attendance has risen to 72 now this week. 43 girls and 29
boys.

5. The challenge is that of having few books in our library
( stock). Will try to go out to ask for more books to add, so that
there are varieties of good books for the children and the community.

Management Meetings (Umodzi& Tiyende pamodzi CBO’s)

1. Mobilize and discuss the form proposal of asking funds from
the Self Help

Fund from American Embassy with Tiyende Pamodzi CBO,of which we looked
into the requirements, the expectations, value and calculations of the
community’s contribution, e.g. land costing, stones, river sand,
labor, budget which we made sure should not exceed the said amount on
the form (25,000 usd), etc as per requirements, setting dates
(Wednesday 18th & Thursday 19th this coming week) to inform and get
signatures and stamps from local authorities .e.g. Gvh kantimbanya and
T/A Somba. Right now i (Justin) have filled the form waiting to be
stamped and get the signatures of these two local authorities. Attach
also some pictures to this application form.

It was a good meeting whereby every member contributed and some
questions, like how about if it did not work out? That is to get the
funding from the embassy. I said, we will make sure with you the
community to still find funds for the project and start working on the
project. After everything done I and David would like to go to
Lilongwe to meet the Embassy officials and present this form
application and probably ask more information and interact with them
if chances will be there.

2. Umodzi- Mbame, had a meeting involving the guards, teachers
and Executive members to interact, share and inform each other of
other development happening with the CBO and also remind each ones
responsibilities at the centre.

3. The guards were reminded of their responsibilities, like
helping parents and teachers cleaning and clearing the surrounding.
Keeping the place safe, supporting the objectives of the CBO, not
anybody else

4. Teachers reminded to closely be working with parents,
committee, all stake holders at all times and maintain the good
working relationship.

5. The executive reported that, they are to meet chadzunda market
officials to be briefed on the way forward regard the place for the
construction of the toilet business and also they reported that, they
have finished planting the sweet potatoes in the school garden which
is good.

6. Finally the guards were thanked for good security measures at
the centre now that, there has not been an issue of theft for the past
10 months or a year now.

7. Members interacted, shared a lot and in the end we suggested
to be having these type of meetings where staff members, EC, boNGO
could just be sharing and interacting.

boNGO (MDG’s) Club- Malawi essays reach the World.

1. The club met on Tuesday for the first time to start its
activities and the attendance was good (28 members came). They were
discussing issues on how to come up with good essays and other aspects
leading to writing good essays in general before starting writing
essays.

The club has all materials and information regarding the know how of
the program.

NEXT PLAN

1. boNGO weekly meeting

2. M&E / Umodzi- Mbame and Mango.

3. M&E mdgs club with David
