Hello friends of boNGO!
This is MD David Leflar with another installment of the weekly update
from our Malawi Program Director Justin Namizinga. While I'm here, I'd
like to let all of you who read these messages know that our new
website is almost ready! I'll soon be directing you there as it will
inevitably be our main method of communicating with our friends,
partners, and supporters.
Let me also offer a comprehensive piece about our grassroots
activities:
We are holding an Observation Teacher-Training at the end of this week
with 55 teachers from the community around the Umodzi-Mbame Model
Preschool. This two-day training will allow all teachers the
opportunity to observe and teach practice lessons with groups of
children. The boNGO Early Childhood Development Teacher-Training
Manual has again been revised in Chichewa and a copy will be
distributed to each teacher..During the Easter break we will host a
five-day Manual Training, and at the end of term we will have our
annual two-week Introduction and Revision Training...
To offer an insight into how these programs are expanding at the
grassroots level, this is the fourth year we will have implemented the
annual training. The first year, we trained our original four teachers
at Umodzi-Mbame to prepare them for the school opening. The second
year, we had thirteen more teachers from the local community in the
training. Last year we involved 47 teachers in the training, and this
year that number has almost already doubled! This year we are building
another Preschool/Community Center with our more remote partner the
Tiyende Pamodzi Community Based Organization.. Now it's looking like
another education and resource center will be needed in the opposite
direction towards the town of Blantyre. Expanding nicely, indeed!
And now, a report from Justin. (My apologies for the grammar and
spelling mistakes... Please forgive him as English is not his first
language-- and I will of course be personally editing the newsletter
which will be sent out via the website!)
