So much so that in some instances I have resorted to having multiple separate Camduct configurations with only one machine available in each configuration, as this was the only way I could get tool selections to work correctly on each machine without conflicting defaults.
Pros:
> Only way to import some database entry type.
> Easiest way to merge the bulk of 2 database together.
> Extremely fast and efficient.
Cons:
> Requires CAMduct.
> Can not pick and choose database entries, only database types.
> Requires post merge cleanup of deletion or making entries permanent
In the IN list you have 3 Materials left after the filtering.
You can assign only one material to every Fabrication Part, unless you have more than one Material parameter.
When you assign 3 Materials to every Fabrication Part only the last one (or firstone ) will stick.
@m.rijsmus, thanks for replying. I understand that I can only assign the one material per part. I was hoping to assign that specific material to the part by service abbreviation without having to go through the filtering process of each service.
Create fabrication-ready models of piping, plumbing, or ductwork systems in AutoCAD using CADmep. Your content libraries used in CADmep, ESTmep, and CAMduct may also be used in Revit to support a multi-discipline workflow. Available stand-alone or in the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection.
For many years there has been a rather undocumented (read-only) information powerhouse living within the Autodesk Fabrication package. I have even found references to its existence dating back to 2004. Unfortunately, I must admit that I had been doing many things in a much less accurate and more difficult way than I needed to, prior to diving into this. This powerhouse is the Fabrication List Setup tool. Fabrication utilizes DXF Group Code 300 to store Fabrication properties, and List Setup, defines which properties are shown in the 300 group code. This post will document the List Setup dialog, why I prefer it as a primary source of information for Fabrication parts, its limitations and some philosophical ways to use it properly.
Note: Custom Data values can be assigned any index in the database when defined and those are the indexes I advocate specifying in List Setup, but unused indexes will be filled by an index of higher value where nothing else is defined. Example: If Custom Data Indexes 1, 2, 3, and 10 are the only defined Custom Data properties in the Main Database, and you provide only those four criteria in List Setup, the 300s group codes will only return those 4 indexes, and not the blank or unused indexes in between. Therefore, Index 10 can be read by specifying Index 4 (lowest numbered, unassigned database index) in the Edit Object Properties dialog.

The company i am currently working for is well up to speed for using 3d co-ordination (produced to a level it can be fabricated) using Autodesk cadmep fabrication 2013. To date we, we have gotten by buy using the steelwork contractors 3d steelwork model and 2d architectural backrounds which are then inserted into drawings where required.
More and more we see clients are asking us to integrate our model from fabrication into the revit model generally received from the architect. Having come up against a brick wall using cad 2013 & revit 2013, our software manager had it sold to him that the new 'Autodesk design suite 2014' package was able to fully interact the fab model with the revit model, but so far, to no avail... i fear we are about to lose this order due to the fact this was promised to the client off the back of the words of an autodesk sales rep.
Thanks so much for your reply, i shouldve mentioned at the time that the design suite software has only just been installed. the original drawing i have was drawn in fabrication 2013, when i open it in the new 2014 autodesk MEP (which looks a LOT different, by the way), then all of my 'fab items arent here (pipes, bends, valves etc.) the only thing that is showing up is the 3d building backround. Is there an add on i need to get for the new cad to show fab items?
In October 2011 Autodesk announced the purchase of MAP Software, taking a big stride toward that goal of direct translation to fabrication data. However, much of my previous review was spent pointing out how far they still needed to go.
Not only are the Modify tools only partially functional, but such simple and common modification methods as changing a size or turning an elbow into a tee are not supported at all. In Figure 3 note the lack of the small plus symbol for the Fab part on the right-hand side. This means that even small changes or additions first require deleting large sections of your work and redrawing.
Some information about Fabrication parts is not available for use in Revit schedules (i.e., duct connection types). This will again require additional care with regard to coordinating between information-rich sources such as the exported fabrication file .maj and somewhat poorer sources such as Revit schedules and tags.
What about in-direct exports? Many installing contractors own their own fabrication equipment, but others buy fabricated parts from multiple sources. The best way to do this may be with the same .maj file, but if the supplier uses different software to drive their equipment, a different method may be needed. The lowest common denominator is a simple list of parts with enough data to get the correct size and shape. As mentioned above under Spool Drawings, this data is lacking the required fields available to be scheduled with Revit Fabrication parts.
Solder fumes and gases are one of the main causes of health problems in an industrial workplace. Having correct extraction systems installed is not only important to meet workplace regulations, but also to ensure the safety and health of your operators.
In order to mitigate damage to MLCCs, manufacturers have been providing guidelines to reduce the risk of cracking like applying the soldering tip only to the pad so the heat is transferred to lead through the solder alloy, preheating the chip to more than 150C to reduce the temperature gradient that takes place as soon as the soldering tip is applied, etc.
There are currently only two CAM postprocessor developers worldwide who have been authorized by Autodesk to develop postprocessors for the manufacturing module of the Autodesk Fabrication family of BIM software - the Fabrication CAMduct, designed for manufacturers of building MEP components (HVAC). One of these selected developers is based in Atlanta, USA, and the other is Arkance Systems in the Czech Republic. At Arkance Systems, we have many years of experience developing and customizing custom CAM postprocessors for dozens of machines and control systems.
The cost of Revit is about $320 per month. If you are using Revit and AutoCAD (which is the case for many people because they are more comfortable with AutoCAD and only do certain things in Revit or the other way around), it is basically another $220 per month for the AutoCAD. The AEC collection itself is $390 per month. If you are using both of those tools, then the AEC collection already makes sense. A lot of our customers have purchased the AEC Collection because it makes sense financially and lets them test the waters of other software.
