Last night I heard a fascinating radio documentary about the Apollo 8 mission in December 1968: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0001lw3
Presented by Helen Sharman (Britain's first astronaut), it incudes archive interviews with several of the protagonists, including Frank Borman (who died this month, aged 95), Jim Lovell and Bill Anders (both still alive) and makes the point that although Apollo 11 took the "small step" onto the lunar surface, it was Apollo 8 which made the "giant leap" by leaving Earth for the first time. Well worth a listen.
