As someone who never grew up eating cinnamon rolls, my mind was blown when I had my first warm, fresh roll at my college servery. Doused in cream cheese icing, the best part of the roll was clearly the gooey center. After trying a few storebought ones, I realized there was no way they could live up to a fresh cinnamon roll.
Tastes loved the cinnamon flavor, the salt balance, and the great caramelization. (Again, there was more caramelized sugar in the pan than there would be had I baked them properly). Some found the dough too bready and tangy. However, if you like tall, bakery-esque rolls, these are the way to go!
We do cinnamon rolls every year for breakfast with the grandparents and are going to try Vanilla Bean Blog. Do you think they would taste ok with a different glaze for these rolls? We have several family members who are not a fan of cream cheese.
Thanks for doing this! So wonderful!! I suspect the tanginess in the BraveTart cinnamon rolls increases the longer you refrigerate the dough, with some lacto-fermentation of sugars due to the yogurt happening at the longer end.
By the way, if you love this dough, be sure to try it as raspberry sweet rolls or strawberry sweet rolls with lemon glaze next. Or for a sprinkle loaded treat, my birthday cake cinnamon rolls use the same dough, too!
Use a very sharp knife to cut the roll into 12 rolls, each about 1.5 inches. Arrange in your greased baking pan, cover, then let the rolls rise until doubled in size and puffy, usually about 1 hour. The left photo is before rising and the right photo is after rising:
This recipe yields a pan of buttery soft, gooey cinnamon sweet, and extra fluffy homemade cinnamon rolls topped with tangy cream cheese icing. You can make the cinnamon rolls within a few hours or get started the night before using the overnight preparation option.
I used bread flour. The cinnamon rooks turned out to be the best I have ever made. The reason I came to your site was because I got a stand mixer and needed recipes for it. After making your dinner rolls and whole wheat rolls, which turned out perfect, I chose this recipe for Cinnamon Rolls, and they are the best I have ever made. My DIL said they were better than Cinnabon! Thank you for your work of developing the best recipes!
These are delicious! I followed instructions to make ahead and freeze, making for an easy breakfast treat Christmas morning. The dough is so easy to work with and rose beautifully in about half the time, maybe bc I used the proof setting on my oven. I added 3/4 c. each raisins and pecans before rolling up and made 1.5x cream cheese frosting.
What I did grow up loving were the cinnamon rolls from my very favorite dough boy. Yup, the Pillsbury dough boy was always a family favorite come the holiday season. Those rolls were breakfast pretty much every morning at our cabin in Ripley, New York in the week following Christmas. Nothing like starting the day off with a sugar buzz. My cousins, my brothers and I loved those cinnamon rolls (although, they where never as good if they got overcooked). Those were some awesome times. That area of New York gets a ton of snow and it was great to all be together creating memories that will last our lifetime.
For this photo tutorial, I have used Scheepjes Stonewashed (Smokey Quartz and Lemon Quartz) and a 4 mm hook, which will produce the same size hook roll as the materials listed. I have changed colours on Rows 2 and 3 to make it easier to see what goes where.
Turn your hook case so that the beaded side (inside) is facing you and the foundation chain is at the top. You will be working into the remaining loops (and through both layers) of the foundation chain to close the bottom and the open side of the hook roll.
Sew the ammonite to the side of the hook roll, working into the first Crab Stitch, into the back bumps all the way down the last Sexttr, and into the next 9 Crab Stitches. Fasten off and work away your ends.
Bake the cake until it is just done. Then immediately (and very carefully!) grab onto the parchment and lift the cake out of the pan and onto a heat-safe flat surface. Then slowly roll the cake from short-end to short-end, until it forms a roll. (See above.)
So I did this recipe and the chocolate cake unfortunately turned out quite dense. I see many others had this same issue. Also I noticed the cream cheese filling recipe was different. I preferred the original recipe for the Pumpkin Roll so I did it the same. Cake definitely did not rise properly and was more dry too. I think next time I will do a tsp baking soda and baking powder like the pumpkin roll recipe. I will also reduce the baking time by 1 to 2 minutes. Because the cake is dense now the filling seems like way too much. So hopefully next batch it will be fluffy.
I am in the exact same boat. I have made the pumpkin roll many times and it is a huge hit with family and friends. This turned out dense, dry and flat. I am going to try using baking soda and baking powder like the pumpkin roll recipe and hope that makes some difference.
My hubby absolutely RAVED about these and has already requested that we add them into our weekly meal rotation. As you know we love to meal prep and these chicken roll-ups make perfect leftovers for lunches or dinner. The chicken is super moist, the peppers are cooked just perfectly inside the roll-ups and the whole dish literally only takes about 30 minutes to throw together (after the chicken has marinated). I went ahead and purchased thin sliced chicken cutlets just to make life a little easier, but you could of course use regular chicken breasts, slice them in half or into thirds (depending on the size) and pound them out until they are about a 1/4-inch thick. Either way will work just fine!
Next time I make these I may add a little shredded cheese on the inside too which I think would taste AMAZING, but I wanted to keep this recipe as healthy as possible since a lot of you have been requesting easy healthy dinner ideas. These chicken roll-ups are about as healthy as they come and would be perfect served with a big salad, brown rice or even my Skillet Mexican Quinoa!
I only use green peppers (lowest carbs). Smear inside the breasts with cream cheese (jalapeño tastes best) before rolling them up. Add salsa and Mozza on top before I bake. Serve with guacamole and sour cream on the side. Too die for Mexican meal at its best!
So you would either slice the 3 chicken breasts each in half getting 6 thin slices OR you could buy pre-sliced chicken cutlets and just use 6 of them. Two roll-ups equal one full chicken breast if that makes sense ?
SOO glad i found this when i was searching for fajita recipes, but I must say, I have never seen anything quite like a fajita roll up. The pictures are absolutely beautiful and i love the presentation. Thanks for sharing this.
I made these with cutlets; wish I had pounded these a little thinner before marinading ; rolling them with the peppers would have been easier. with the extra papers I had I just baked them in the same dish with the chicken and our meal was great!
