hello
my dears-
the main purpose of this email is so that we all have each other's
email addresses.
and to fill those of you who were not present in with our
latest mumblings, rumblings and schemes.
While i hope the the Wilde Women
plan will not be permantly shelved, two other ideas seem to be moving to the
forefront.
We are primarily moved, all of us, by the NEED to be doing
what we love, which for all of us is theatre/acting/creativity/performance (in
Irene's case, music, and Patricia's, dance/movement theatre).
So to get
our butts MOVING after a too lengthy idleness, lisa suggested that we sign up
again for V-Day , and as time is short at this point, revisit The Vagina
Monologues.
The rules for V-daY grant the rights for free as long as the
proceeds from the performance(S) are donated to women's-safety-oriented charity
and the shows must be presented before, i believe, the end of march/beginning of
april.
Deadlines work wonders at forcing the tip-toeing artist to take
bolder steps.
Angie brought back the wonderous gift from England of the
script to agatha Christie's "Mousetrap"- which has been successfully and
repeatedly performed at Dehon, hence my buddy, Guido, the director, was
enthusiastic at the idea of using their sets, costumes, stage directions, etc,
to stage a production in the original language.
An obstacle (for US) with
this particular play is that it was written for a cast of 8 men and only 2
women. I have not yet read the script nor re-watched the piece since we began
musing over it, but my daughter watched it with a critical eye towards whether
it could be rendered with an all-female cast and judged in our favor, so i
believe this is a viable next step.
Patricia (USA) and Lottie (UK) are
two long-time thespians who move towards creating some kind of Shakespeare-based
work, whether a production of a particular play, or devising a sort of revue, as
we had planned for Wilde, which will be discussed at a later date. patricia, with
her background in Commedia and dance, has plenty of ideas about overcoming
language difficulties by implementing communicative movement.
Next step:
I shall register us on the V-Day website again, from which we will be able to
download the script...and can begin musing over which parts we would like to do.
Some things about our original formula were very effective for a bi-lingual
audience, i.e. the use of Italian narrators, and i suspect that our 2008
participants would love to do it again.
I think all of us would prefer a new
"bit", just for the stimulus of the new, but of course if you prefer to remain
faithful to your forte, that's okay, too.
Once again, scheduling
rehearsals may be a problem. I would recommend we all access the script, mull
over it, and our data-base expert Lisa could have us each fill in our
avilable/not available timetable on some sort of cross-reference-able excel file
or calendar.
As we are all with mad, English-teacher schedules, my
suggestion for a next meeting would be for next sunday afternoon,( with some
notions clicking away in our little brains about what we would each like to do).
TVM has the advantage over other plays of not requiring many whole group
rehearsals. Feedback?
If you are "in" please make sure Lisa and I have
all your contact information.
Baci,
Shanna
