Iam having an issue with FileZilla. I try to establish an FTP connection with my server but end up stuck at the same initial message after trying quite a few rounds. I am able to use the same host, username, password and port to login using Chrome browser but not for FileZilla. Any idea?

I faced the same issue many times, and when the hosting provider and filezilla forums couldn't help, i myself tried digging it deeper to figure out the exact problem. Putting it altogether for you all..

But since now most of the standard hosting providers do support FTP over TLS, so the issue is mainly due to ISP, Especially mobile operators disallow this sought of connection, so people using mobile hotspots are more likely to face this problem. Like in India half of the mobile operators doesn't allow FTP over TLS. Just switch the data SIM or the ISP and try again.

I disconnected, then checked "Require IPv4 addressing for this connection to complete" checkbox in the network adapter settings, and reconnected; and then tried again connecting with FileZilla and it worked.

The confirmation prompt had only been missed because it was displayed in a separate pop up box that appeared out of view due to working on a desktop system that was not showing the full display on a single screen.

I have a backup of a joomla site which has a lot of files (25k) and would take forever to upload and probably hang your ftp server. I created a multipart zip of the site where each zip was 9mb and uploaded all of the files using filezilla.

The cPanel control panel, which is provided with premium hosting, comes with a file manager which can extract on the server, as well as a backup restoration tool where you can just drop in an archive and it will restore it for you.

A free ftp client that will handle Secure FTP is Filezilla. It can downloaded from filezilla.sourceforge.net. Now launch Filezilla and the following will walk you through how to setup a Secure FTP connection: First go to File >> Site Manager. Click the New Site button. Give your new connection a name and select the Host field on the right and type in your domain name. Select the Server type dropdown box. Select the SFTP using SSH2 option. Remember that this option is ONLY going to work if you have applied for and received SSH access from our support center. Select the Normal option for the Logon type. Select the User field and type in your ftp username. Click the Connect button. Type in your password and then click the OK button. It will now let you connect using Secure FTP. Just upload your files like you would as normal. When you need to connect again, just go to the Site Manager in Filezilla and choose the appropriate connection Knowledgebase Article 257,982 views bookmark share Share or save this via: E-mail Twitter Google Bookmarks Facebook MySpace Digg Reddit Bookmark Delicious LinkedIn StumbleUpon tags: ftp secure slow ssh
