Idon't really want a stud multiplier and to unlock spells which I presume I'll unlock later in the game, to me that will take the fun away. At the same time though I'm an achievement junkie and knowing I could be missing out on achievements because I havn't activated cheats would frustrate me.

So what I want to know is if I will miss out on any achievements if for my first playthrough I play the game without any cheats, just finishing the levels so that I can play them in free play later. If I do this though does it mean that I won't be able to collect enough studs for achievements and stuff?

Basically I just want an overview as to how important the cheats are in the game. Any other advice to someone who hasn't played a Lego game in ages and therefore unaware of potential 100% glitches would also be welcomed. I am seriously considering not playing the game because of the amount of people that have had to restart their game because of a glitch!

While this game is fun...I think as soon as you get 1000, you'lll be happy it's over. Finding every single collectible can be a bit of a chore, so using cheats to ensure "True Wizard" in every level makes things go a little quicker. If you run into a glitch, or can't find that last Student in Peril, it will be double-y frustrating if you've had to replay levels because you didn't want to use cheats.

I say using the stud multipliers make it easy and cuts the time you have to play it in half. Because you don't have to replay the levels a 3rd time after finding the red bricks on your 2nd playthrough. Basically, you'd only have to play the game twice instead of three times. With the multipliers on you get "True Wizard" as soon as the level starts.

The redbricks are found throughout Hogwarts, not in any of the 24 game levels, so finding the red bricks does not mean an extra playthrough. And even if you chose to replay the levels first you only need a few minutes of play with the multipliers on to get more studs than you could possibly ever use.

To actually answer the OP's original question then, you don't need to use the cheat codes to get 100%, I have 1000gs and I never used them. The main thing is, after completing the story, to do the Hogwarts freeplay before you do any level replays so that you have what you need to find everything. The exception to that is that you need to do at least one level replay first so that you have a dark magic character to use throughout Hogwarts.

The main glitch to be wary of while playing the story is don't back out of a level once you have started it because some levels will then become un-replayable. It's probably a good idea to back up your save on an external device occasionally just in case.

I take more pride in completing a game without cheats than I do with them. This game isn't hard. It's time consuming. You can get 150,000 studs a level without the multipliers. So if you actually want to play the game and have fun, then don't use cheats. If you are doing it just for the 1000G, then you may want to use cheats to make it take 45 minutes less.

I'm glad that you take so much pride in this game and your cheat free-ness. That's good for you. BUT... I think that your statement which I have bolded is unfair and untrue. I actually wanted to play the game and have fun, and I used cheats and I actually had fun playing the game. For me, it was more fun. I didn't feel like stressing about picking up every stud, or worrying about finding the red bricks. I just wanted to be able to run around and enjoy the lego world. For me that involves using the cheats to give me one less thing to worry about.

I boldened that part of your post because it made me chuckle. You either have the patience of a Saint or are very anally retentive when it comes to gaming. I do not find it fun having to pick through every part of a level with a fine-toothed comb just to get studs etc.

In my opinion the red bricks were put into the game to be used. Otherwise why would it be part of an achievement to find all of them and to also gain an impossible number of studs in a level. I use the bricks when I have found and bought them; I do not enter in the code.

My method of doing LEGO games is to do the first playthrough without cheats to unlock as many characters etc as possible. And then when I have enough money buy the red bricks and enable certain ones in the 2nd playthrough. I rarely use invincibility.

That's my line of thinking as well. I'm not about to run to the "enter cheats here" section of the game, but when I find a red brick I'll most definantly use the associated cheat, (up to now it's only the ghost studs one). I can understand why people would use them from the word go, and I don't say it's wrong, it's just not what I personally like to do.

All the locator cheats are incredibly handy and not a complete cakewalk to get the stuff they are pointing to. They show that something is there but it isn't always so cut and dry to get it. There isn't one for student in peril and the red brick one is almost un-necessary since if you see an owl then you know a red brick is in the area.

Using the red brick benefits in a Lego game is an extra not a cheat. It's a feature of the game that you unlock by playing it. In previous Lego games it was just about compulsory to use the extras because of the high price of some bricks and characters. A cheat is when you enter a code to get the benefit before you could get it in normal game play. And you could even argue that entering a code in Lego HP isn't really a cheat as you enter it on an in-game blackboard.

I suppose at the end of the day it doesn't matter, since the aim of a game is to have fun. You should play it how YOU want to play it. That said the prices of the red brick extras in LHP seem to be far less than their counterparts in the star wars/indy/batman games.

There's been a fair amount of interest in this thread so I thought I'd make another post stating my progress. I ended up putting cheats on 2 levels in to the game and had them on all the way until my 1000G had been and gone. The question is whether I regretted my decision.

The answer is not really, I didn't. I was worried if I put cheats on then I'd have all the spells from the get go which would mean I didn't solve puzzles the intended first way. This would for me start to ruin the experience. I'm not sure if it even is possible to get all the spells from the get go but I chose not to and left them cheats out. You need to go through all the levels again with a Dark Magic character anyway so my first playthrough was simply all for fun.

The amount of studs you get in the game with the x3860 (or whatever it is) on means that having enough studs to buy everything in the game is very very easy to do. I didn't like the thought of the currency being invaluable to me anymore because it was stupidly high but truth be told that didn't stop me from getting it higher and higher. I feared I wouldn't feel the need to smash everything up for studs yet I still ended up doing it for fun (which is great).

Not sure how to conclude on this, I feel like I should say there's no harm having cheats as you're still able to enjoy yourself lots (as I did) but there really isn't any need for the cheats. Just don't get yourself in to a pickle like I did and be pedantic, it doesn't matter whether they're on or not, you should still hopefully enjoy yourself.

It's not neccessarily about using them to get a fast 1000, it's about taking out the part of the game that is most annoying. I didn't play a Lego game from TCS until now (I started Indiana Jones and got through 1 level and sent it back) just because I HATED running around in circles constantly trying to collect studs.

The mulipliers and stud magnet are a great way to take the tedious bullshit part of the games out of it so that you can actually enjoy the game by just playing through the mission at hand and following the story rather than spend about 80% of your time in the game blowing up random objects, building stairs/springs to use to reach 1 blue/purple stud.

Granted. But you have to go back through the levels anyways so don't bother with getting all the studs. Lego Star Wars TCS was by far the best lego game though... then Indy, Batman, Harry Potter, then Indy 2. They have progressively getting worse to me. Too many scattered collectables don't make the game fun. I liked it as 10 minikits a level, true jedi, and completing it. 3 gold bricks. Bang. Not 4 collectables. Student in Peril. 200 bonus mission. Hub the size of Jupiter. Sometimes simpler is better.

But you don't have to use the cheats to avoid chasing after studs. I just went around Hogwarts and found the stud multiplier parcels before I replayed the levels and studs were never a problem. But I tend to agree with StayonTarget anyway, that stud collecting is fun and a large part of what the Lego games are about. I would still have collected most of each level regardless. What's not to like about destroying lego objects and collecting a reward. Takes me back to my childhood - except the only reward back then would have been Mum ordering me to pick up the mess!

I'm not saying that the trophy guide is 100% trash (I've seen worse). But what I AM saying is that more effort was seriously needed. I mean, come on, the dude lists one trophy as missable when it's not, lists another trophy as unmissable when it IS, got corrected on it by other players but never bothered to update it. He didn't even bother to include a separate guide for the collectibles and there are codes listed in the guide that don't work or codes that are just completely missing! It's a half-assed guide, in my opinion, and half-assed guides annoy the hell out of me. If you're going to write a trophy guide other players shouldn't have to include this shit for you but I took the liberty of doing it anyway to help others out.
