In Case You Didn't Know...I LOVE Ranveer Singh
Have you seem Ram Leela? Have you seen Bajirao Mastani? Okay, how about the classic Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam? Sanjay Leela Bhansali, of course with perfect timing, announced the release date of his newest movie: Padmavati. My inner, prideful 'gujju' is pumped. With that, beautiful images of Deepika Padukone, who will be playing the lead role of Rani Padmavati. Can't wait to see what Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor will look like in this movie!
Yes, Deeps got a brow. And yes, there is already multiple memes circulating - my favorite one captioning the above left picture with: Who named this movie Padmavati instead of Bajibrow Mastani?
It's hard to get excited about this for a lot of you because we all know how the plot of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movies aren't the greatest, especially Bajirao. However, one thing he never fails to do is invest in the production value, making the theater experience and entertainment SO worth it. While prediction of plot quality for this movie is TBD on the trailer, these images of Deepika alone are giving me chills about the production quality. CANNOT wait for the amazing tunes that come with each Bhansali movie. For the purposes of Navratri, here's a (relative) throwback Bansali classic!
What mood does this satisfy? Garba can be sexy and romantic.
Casting Can Easily Determine Movie Quality
Inspired by the above section about Bhansali, I started thinking about why so many people still went to go see Bajirao even though many people said it was so bad: curiosity. Aside from production, Bhansali picks the best cast - Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh? The acting was undoubtedly phenomenal irregardless of the plot. Each one of them crushed their roles, and people went to see the movie for them. As if Bhansali wasn't a name brand alone, the actors and actresses in the film added to the name brand quality - and that methodology has been prominent and continues to be.
Since I already talked about a loaded cast crew, here's an example of the opposite: A Gentleman - starring Jacqueline Fernandez and Siddharth Malhotra. I don't know about you, but I do not trust either of them for good acting or a good movie. Yes, they're beautiful, but they cannot act well (Siddharth may have a few exceptions, but not enough to make him trustworthy for entertainment). Other than hype songs, there's no motivation to see this movie all the way through.
Credible actors still star in terrible movies - Nonetheless, we're more likely to make the effort to see it. To name one: Dear Zindagi - not the greatest, most entertaining movie, but come on, you know you'll still give Alia and SRK a shot! The duo makes us consumers curious enough to give it a watch, but not necessarily a rewatch.
What mood does this satisfy? Happy hour vibes!
