ROUND-UP OF BURNING MAN WRITINGS:
|
GET ME OFF THIS CRAZY RIDE!
|

Welcome to the final Jackrabbit Speaks of the 2014 calendar year (which we have to admit is more or less a non-event relative to the Burn year). It's been a helluva year, we'll say that much, and we're very much looking forward to what 2015 has in store!
You'll be excited to hear that we have full ticket information for Burning Man 2015, and a host of other good stuff packed into this (pretty fun, we have to say) JRS.
In case you missed it, we launched our brand spankin' new website burningman.org — and for those of you who are curious about the behind-the-scenes action of how and why such things happen, learn about it in the "Welcome to Burningman.org" post in our blog, the Voices of Burning Man (formerly Burning Blog).
Happy holidays everybody!

Burning Man 2015 Ticket Information
 |
|
| |
You can now find all the nitty-gritty details about Burning Man 2015 tickets on tickets.burningman.org. Here are the highlights:
-
We’re keeping the same sale structure as 2014: we'll have a Pre-Sale, a Directed Group Sale, an Individual Sale, and the OMG Sale.
-
Access to all sales will happen through a pre-registration process in Burner Profiles. Burner Profiles is your gateway to purchasing tickets, so dust yours off, update your info, and make sure you’re ready to go.
-
Tickets in all sales are $390 each (plus fees), except for Pre-Sale tickets which are $800 each (plus fees). Vehicle passes are $50 each.
-
We are again offering our Secure Ticket Exchange Program (STEP), and the Low Income Ticket Program.
While you're thinking about tickets, here are some things you might like to know:
-
We've worked hard to keep the price of tickets down, despite increasing event production costs. In 2012 the main tier was $390. When we got rid of tiered pricing the following year, we lowered the main tier to $380, which it has been for the past two years. This year there is an increase of just $10, putting the main price back at $390. (Learn where your ticket money goes.)
-
Higher priced Pre-Sale tickets help to keep the regular ticket price down and offset the cost of the Low Income Ticket Program.
-
Pre-Sale tickets are not Donation Tickets (In 2014 a limited number of tickets were sold for face value plus a $250 tax-deductible donation to Burning Man Project. This program will not be repeated in 2015.).
-
Vehicle Passes for the 2014 event were introduced as part of our traffic mitigation program. They are intended to incentivize participants to carpool to Black Rock City.
-
For 2014, the total allotment was 35,000 vehicle passes. We never sold out. Just over 34,000 were purchased in all of our sales combined. Just before the event there were lots of passes on the secondary market, and in the end, only about 27,000 vehicle passes were actually used.
-
Since Black Rock City will be roughly the same size in 2015 as it was in 2014, this year we're limiting the total allotment to 27,000.

Welcome Back, Lake Lahontan!
Our man Taz, who holds down the technological fort year-round in Gerlach, sent us word this month that the great Lake Lahontan has returned! With the worst drought in many centuries going on in the Western US, this is no small thing. Luckily, Taz sent not only word, but pictures!

Burning Questions, Answered
This is a great post for first-timers. Focuses in on those little details you notice on your first trip that get blurry as the years roll on. Brian writes:
"Normally I write about the graphic arts and photography. Burning Man moved me to write a blog about the event and the people. I wrote to explain my experience, and how I came away from Burning Man with a desire to go again."

Margaret Left A Trace
Caveat Magister has done it again:
"We always think of the principle of “Leave No Trace” as applying to things. To garbage. To left over zip ties. To empty cans on the ground.
But does it apply to people?
Do we want it to?"

Funexpected! The Belfast Burn's First Trip to BRC
Great production on this! Bigsnugs writes:
"The Belfast Burn was a loose term we put around a great team, most of which made their first trip to Burning Man in 2014. We shot over 300 videos and took over 6,000 pictures and finally, managed to squash them all into one video. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed being in it & making it!"

What Are YOU Gonna Do About It?
'Tis the fallow season of the Burning year ... the Decompression wave is receding (but not completely washed asea), and the Burner world goes into a bit of hibernation.
Or does it?
The non-profit Burning Man Project is hard at work spreading Burning Man culture around the world, keeping the fires alive, and sharing the transformational power of this experience with more people in more places, year-round.
And YOU can be a part of it. Get involved! Find your local Regional Group, tap in, and get something going! Or, if you want to fly solo (sure, why not?) tap into your own playa experience, and share it with the folks around you. The holiday season is upon us, why not take the opportunity to affect some change in your corner of the Burnerverse?

Volunteer Feedback Survey 2014 is LIVE!
Termeh writes:
"Hello Burning Man Participants, aka Volunteers!
Did you spend some time this year or, prior to 2014, volunteering for a theme camp, an art project, or one of the Burning Man teams?
If your answer is 'yes!' here is your chance to send us feedback about your overall experience. The Volunteer Feedback Survey is open on December 10, 2014 until January 10, 2015. Please take a few minutes to answer some questions and let us know about your civic participation in BRC or with other Burning Man events and projects:
2014 Volunteer Feedback Survey
Your feedback is hugely appreciated as it helps us understand the overall experience of Burning Man volunteers, look for solutions to problems where needed and, to note and celebrate our community’s successes.
If you have already filled out this survey in previous years, you can still participate by telling us about this year’s experience. And, if you were a newbie in 2014, we’d love to hear from you as well!
Thank you all for your participation,
Termeh and the Volunteer Squadron"

Dandelion Dollars Make the World More Magical
Here's a nice way to transmit good tidings. Dan writes:
"Every year, in every car, we all drive back from The Burn saying the same thing, right?!
'I wish the "real" world was more like BRC!!!'
Well, we did some heavy thinking about that! The Dandelion Dollars social improvement movement was founded on 12/12/12 as a crazy idea to heal the world's karmasphere! The craziest part is that it's actually working!
If you imagine Burning Man as a dandelion, and we are all its seeds, you get a video that explains the rest of the plan! Join us in sprinkling some magic playa dust on the 'normal' world! Make a Dandelion Dollar today! The world will suck less tomorrow!"

The Babe: A Mobility Camp Support Vehicle for 2015 Playa Touring
Help these Burners help Burners who need help with mobility in Black Rock City! [Note: as cool as this concept is, it's not guaranteed that it (or any other vehicle for that matter) will be licensed by the Department of Mutant Vehicles to drive on playa.] Tim writes:
"We are in progress with raising funds to cover the cost of building a dynamite one-of-a-kind project we call The Babe. We have been working for months already!
At present, we are in The Generator in Sparks, NV, a Burning Man facility. Our calendar there, and its available space, is limited; making our need for funds more resolute. We have considerable work to do to make her a 'safe and reliable' transportation vehicle for the physically challenged. Our plans for her ArtCar aspect is totally dependent on the availability of funds."

Build BIG ART for The Paseo — September 25-26 — Taos, NM
The folks at Paseo write:
"The Paseo, an emerging outdoor art festival in the tiny art colony of Taos, New Mexico is seeking submissions for projects for The Paseo 2015, scheduled for September 25th and 26th. We are talking installation pieces, projection, participatory, and all things that can't hang on a wall. Join us at paseotaos.org.
While we aren't a regional Burn, we'd love to connect with the Burning Man community to help bring art to the streets of Taos - a centuries old art colony in Northern New Mexico, population 7,000."

We were listening to ...
Really cheesy, jingly-jangly, commercialism-driven Christmas music.
Some other Rabbits are shall we say averse to Christmas music. So it would be Frankie Cosmos and Rubblebucket this time around (quirky indie being the antidote to Christmas music).
