Burning Man 2023 | Jack Rabbit Speaks

Volume 30, Issue #15 | March 19, 2026

From Down the Rabbit Hole

Introducing the artworks selected for the Black Rock City 2026 Honoraria Program — the monumental and the small-scale, the philosophical and the wonderfully silly, the fiery and the contemplative. These 75 installations are among the nearly 400 works of art that will rise from the desert, and then disappear without a trace. Keep reading to step through an enticing portal into the phantasmagorical creatures and otherworldly experiences that will illuminate the Axis Mundi playa.

In a full-circle moment when past and future collide, this edition also shares the MOOP Map, which illustrates Black Rock citizens' Communal Effort to leave no trace in 2025. Camp leads, you just got an extension on your homework; there are new deadlines for the Placed Camp Questionnaire. Details in the Participate section.

Who's ready to plug into the astonishing experiences, communities and crews that build Burning Man? That's right, you are. Don't miss the Burning Man 2026 Participation Fair April 4, a virtual gathering to connect and join the teams that make Burning Man happen. We've got the goods here.

If you're anywhere near Arizona, tickets are still available for Saguaro Man. Bay Area humans, summon your crew for Burnal Equinox — it's this Saturday! And be sure to feast your dusty soul on a stunning playa magic hour drone video. It's all below.

Watch this very newsletter for news about the Black Rock City 2026 Main Ticket Sale. The Main Sale will be April 29 at 12pm PT, with registration April 20 to 28.

Time to build it, friends.

The Man burns in 170 days!

Announcing the 2026 Honoraria: Art That Connects, Inspires & Delights

Burning Man Project is thrilled to announce the artworks selected for the 2026 Black Rock City Honoraria Program! These works span the full spectrum of creativity: monumental sculptures, intimate encounters, fiery spectacles, playful oddities, and powerful stories. Artists representing 17 U.S. states and 15 countries will bring their visions to life on the playa, sharing cultural traditions, inventive technologies, and bold new ideas.

After reviewing hundreds of proposals, 75 projects will receive funding, with $1.3 million awarded directly to artists. Some artists are longtime contributors, while others will be setting foot in BRC for the first time, proving that creativity at Burning Man belongs to anyone willing to step up and make something to share. The Honoraria Program represents just a fraction of the nearly 400 art projects that will activate Black Rock City in 2026. What will you create?

MOOP Map 2025, BLM Inspection and Solving Our Lag Bolt Problem

The 2025 MOOP Map is live! Every year, the MOOP Map tells the story of how Black Rock City cleaned up after itself — the good, the bad, and the dusty (but mostly the good!). It reflects the leave no trace efforts of Black Rock citizens, and what the Playa Restoration team discovered and removed during their post-event sweep to return the playa to its pristine condition. Read the new Journal post to find out:

  • How camps stacked up
  • Where Black Rock City shined
  • How weather impacted cleanup
  • What the #1 MOOP item of 2025 was (hint: we’ve got a lag bolt problem)

Extended Deadlines for the 2026 Placed Camp Questionnaire

If you lead a theme camp or a camp within a HUB, we know you have a lot on your plate. To lighten your load, we've extended the deadline to submit your Placed Camp Questionnaire. Here are the new deadlines:

  • March 26: Theme camps that wish to be placed on Esplanade, Portals, Plazas, or Avenues
  • March 26: All camps within HUBS
  • April 2: Theme camps that wish to be placed on Streets not in a HUB

This shift offers as much flexibility as possible while still enabling Placement to meet important milestones in their review and mapping process. We will do our best to accommodate requests beyond these extensions. Please know that location preferences will be prioritized for camps that meet these new deadlines.

Let us know if you need an extension: email plac...@burningman.org with your camp name and preferred sector in the subject line (e.g., [3:00] Fluffy Bunnies Camp Questionnaire Extension Request).

If you are an art, mutant vehicle, work, or civic support camp that is not in a HUB, you still have until Thursday, April 16 to complete the questionnaire.
