ROUND-UP OF BURNING MAN WRITINGS:
|
GET ME OFF THIS CRAZY RIDE!
|

Holy moly that was awesome! Burning Man 2014 is a wrap, and damn if we didn't wrap it up pretty, slap a glittery bow on it, douse it in gasoline and set a match to it.
So you've got playa dust in cracks and crevices you didn't even know you had. You're staring vacantly into middle space while people move around you. You can see their lips moving but haven't a clue what they're saying. Your reaction times are in the toilet. Your endorphins are still humming away. You have to fight the urge to hug the grocery store cashier.
And now that you're basking in the afterglow of the kaleidoscopic, pyrotechnic, hyper-socialized, brain-exploding brilliant maelstrom that was Burning Man, we encourage you to take that feeling and run with it. Live it. Participate in life like you do in Black Rock City.
For reals, bless you all for being who you are, for doing what you do, and for creating amazing things in the world, both in Black Rock City, and year-round. Stay tuned, because the Jackrabbits will keep your fires burning throughout the year, and get you ready for Burning Man 2015. Because remember ...
The Man burns in 365 days (or tomorrow, if you're so incilned)!

Honoring Alicia Louise Cipiccio
We'd like to dedicate this edition of the Jackrabbit Speaks to the memory of Alicia Louise Cipicchio, the 29-year-old resident of Jackson, Wyoming who suffered fatal injuries after falling under a large vehicle at Burning Man early Thursday morning of the event.
Event officials, including representatives of Black Rock City, the Bureau of Land Management and Pershing County Sheriff’s Office express their condolences and sympathies to Alicia's family and friends.

Feedback Loop: Tell Us What You Think!
Burning Man 2014 is in the bag! And now, we want your feedback. Your thoughts, concerns, questions and reflections will factor into our planning for 2015 and beyond!
The staff reads every word and your input becomes a part of our annual staff debrief process. We're always open to your feedback, but we'll be closing the Feedback Loop on October 15 to incorporate submissions in our review process. Submit your thoughts here:
Feedback Loop
Note: while we do send individualized responses to some submissions, we aren't able to respond to every one. Subjects generating a lot of public comment (ahem: Will Call) will be addressed in the Q&A section of the annual Afterburn Report.

Black Rock City Census — Please Participate!
Come to your Census! Please take moment to fulfill your civic duty as a citizen of Black Rock City by completing the Black Rock City Census!
The Census is anonymous. It is divided into three sections - if you don't have time to complete them all, please answer as many questions as you can!
It's important! We use data from the Census to learn about our community, show elected officials the positive economic benefit of Burning Man on Nevada, showcase the value of Burner-driven civic projects around the country and to demonstrate to the press that we are worldwide and growing.
Complete your Black Rock City Census form for 2014!
(NOTE: If the 2013 Census comes up, your browser's cached it from last year. Click this link to get to the right one.)

Ticket Issues
If you've got a ticketing issue that needs to be resolved, visit our Ticket Support System, and ... a) see if your question is already answered there, and/or b) contact our support folks for help.
Preferably in that order.
Either way, we'll do our best to get you sorted.

Law Enforcement Feedback
Did you have or witness an encounter with law enforcement on the playa this year? Whether positive or negative, we want to know about it.
We use this information to work with law enforcement to improve our relations and their interactions with our community, and to ensure your constitutional and civil rights are being protected while in Black Rock City. And we can't be successful in that effort if we don't have your stories.
So please, take a moment to fill out and submit a Law Enforcement Feedback Form.

Lawyers for Burners
If you got arrested or received a citation on playa, you don't have to be in it alone. A grassroots volunteer organization called Lawyers For Burners may be able to help you with finding a lawyer or providing legal advice.
Visit their website for more information.
Tip: to contact LFB, fill out their Feedback Form (linked from the left hand column), and they'll be in touch.

Building Black Rock City & the Burn Week
Say it with us now: "All Hail John Curley!"
For the last 7 years (he's having trouble believing that number, too), Curley has been documenting the building of Black Rock City and Burn week, producing consistently heartwarming, informative and touching dispatches from the playa, peppered with eye-popping photography.
Here are Curley's posts from Black Rock City 2014.
Thank you Curley for all the incredible work!

So Grover Norquist Went to Burning Man ...
So ... Grover Norquist decided to go to Burning Man this year, sending shockwaves through subsets of our community who apparently forgot that not only is Radical Inclusion the first of the Ten Principles, it's arguably the single most important principle that ensures the growth and longevity of our culture ... ahem, but we digress.
To everybody's great surprise, Burning Man survived Grover being there (can you believe it?!), and whaddya know? He got it.
To wit: "Some day, I want to live 52 weeks a year in a state or city that acts like this. I want to attend a national political convention that advocates the wisdom of Burning Man."
Check out Grover's recap of his playa experience.
Pro Tip: there are people in Black Rock City you may not agree with (gasp!) and yet we continue to do incredible things— that's what makes it beautiful.

Get Connected, Get Involved in Burning Man, Year Round
 |
|
| |
If you want to keep the playa spirit alive year-round, there are plenty of opportunities for you to do so. Participate! Or consider making a tax-deductible donation to one of Burning Man's non-profits.
The Regional Network
The Burning Man Regional Network is the year-round embodiment of the Burning Man experience. In cities around the world, the Burning Man Project supports Regional Contacts who help local Burners connect with each other, while bringing Burning Man principles and culture into their local communities.
The Burning Man Project
The Burning Man Project's mission is to facilitate and extend the culture that has issued from the Burning Man event into a larger world by helping people apply the Ten Principles in many communities and spheres of endeavor.
Burning Man Arts
Formerly the Black Rock Arts Foundation, our sister non-profit has joined the Burning Man Project, and continues to bring the art and spirit of Burning Man into our daily lives through public art.
Black Rock Solar
Black Rock Solar builds low- or no-cost solar power in underserved communities, while teaching people how to install renewable energy.
Burners Without Borders
BWB facilitates volunteers interested in manifesting Burning Man principles in the world by gifting their time and talents to help others.

Thank You for Supporting Art in Black Rock City!
Here's a big thank you to everybody who supported Burning Man projects this year ... whether it was a financial contribution, a donation, or volunteering your time and talents, the fruits of your generosity sure did show on playa! We saw more art projects in Black Rock City than ever before (over 400 installations!), including more fire art than ever (over 100 pieces!), and 550 incredible mutant vehicles.
While it does seem during the thick of the fundraising season that we're getting inundated by requests for support, the end result is that more people have the opportunity to contribute to these projects, making them truly community-generated creations. So thank you!
