This community is no stranger to ephemerality. In fact, we celebrate it. Which is why we're over the moon (see what we did there?) for the Black Rock City 2026 Temple. A poignant tribute to immediacy, transience, and the cyclical nature of the moon, the Temple of the Moon will rise and be released in sync with the lunar cycle, drawing inspiration from a nocturnal flower that blooms just once each year. Read on for details. Also in this edition, a piece by Burning Man Project CEO Marian Goodell explores the connective necessity of Burning Man as the impetus behind why we continue to build and gather. If you're down under, tickets to Blazing Swan go on sale soon. Gather your questions about bringing art, a theme camp, or mutant vehicle to Black Rock City and RSVP for March office hours. Introducing the Temple of the Moon: Black Rock City's 2026 Temple We’re honored to introduce the Black Rock City 2026 Temple: the Temple of the Moon, created by James Gwertzman with support from the Moonlight Collective and the Temple Build Crew. Inspired by the Queen of the Night flower, which blooms for a single night each year, this year’s Temple reflects the fleeting nature of Black Rock City — an annual rhythm of emergence and release. Rising on the playa alongside the moon’s journey from new to full, it will offer a space for immediacy, remembrance, and shared presence. Together, flower and moon conceptually make the Temple a celebration of impermanence and immediacy. It serves as a reminder that the fleeting nature of human experience is what makes our short time here on earth so meaningful. Why We Keep Building Burning Man by Marian Goodell In her latest opinion piece in the Reno Gazette Journal, Burning Man Project CEO Marian Goodell writes: Burning Man is often misunderstood as a spectacle, or a party, or an alternative world. In truth, it is a civic experiment that’s four decades in the making. A global creative culture and temporary city built entirely by its inhabitants, guided by shared principles and sustained by participation. No one comes to Burning Man as a passive ticket holder. Everyone is needed. Everyone contributes something. In a world where many people feel powerless, that experience and opportunity to contribute matters.
