Burning Man 2023 | Jack Rabbit Speaks

Volume 30, Issue #13 | February 24, 2026

From Down the Rabbit Hole

You may think you are joining friends for whimsy and revelry in the desert. Oh yes, you are! But then the plans begin. You start to imagine, collaborate, and build... something better, weirder, and more fun than anyone expected. Along the way, you acquire community, and skills you never dreamed you would learn. That's how it starts.

From there, Burners have brought learnings and connections forward to do astonishing things. Take, for example, Burners Without Borders, which began with a few inspired Burners and grew into a global grassroots organization that supports community resiliency, regeneration, and relief. Keep scrolling for articles and a podcast episode on the evolution of Burners Without Borders, and learn how you can get involved.

But wait, there's more! Curious about participating in a theme camp? Get thee to the 2026 Camp Symposium, a yearly virtual gathering of Black Rock City camp organizers. If you're in the Bay Area, Burnal Equinox is March 21. Yes, you can volunteer, or sign up to bring your interpretive dance flaming unicycle collective — details are below.

Burners Without Borders: A Testament to Burning Man Culture

Around the planet, people come to Burning Man events and learn to work together to make things from next to nothing. In the process, they hone skills that carry over into so many different realms.

Burners Without Borders (BWB) volunteers weave know-how and playful camaraderie with grassroots action in a unique way, building a story that arcs from response to resilience to regeneration. This new Journal post looks back as BWB enters its third decade, and looks forward to some of the new grantees whose ingenuity is illuminating Regional Events, Black Rock City, and beyond.

Burners Without Borders at 20: What’s Next & How to Get Involved

This year, we celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Burners Without Borders (BWB). From its roots as a disaster response organization set up in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, BWB has evolved into a network to help local grassroots groups and Burner-led projects continue the work they're already doing. Roxane Jessi's new article on the BWB website speaks with community leaders, looks at the evolution of projects around the world, and invites YOU to get involved.
