Venezuela’s
and Cuba’s state-owned oil companies PDVSA and CUPET
continue
strengthening bonds and started the first offshore exploration project
in Cuban waters.
PDVSA-CVP and CUPET have included six exploration blocs - approximately 3,861 square miles – off the Cuban coast, where they expect to find enough light crude oil in order to keep up a high production potential.
The first phase of this project will involve 1,648 square mile of 2D deepwater seismic mapping and 205 2D mapping in the transition zone.
Early deepwater exploration activities embody PDVSA’s first experience in this field.
