After hearing about all the awesome places you've traveled to, or want to travel to let's go closer to home.

In honor of the upcoming Olympics: What is your favorite sport? Or, what sports do you play.

I've been a swimmer all my life, and love the water. I swam competitively through high school, where I also joined our water polo team. Getting to Cornell however, I switched it up. Still in the water, but I rowed heavyweight crew. Varsity, until I hurt my back :(

I don't really stay up-to-date with stats or teams. I tend not to watch much sports on TV, though I like the Olympics, and always cheer for Argentina in the World Cup.

Since then, I've continued to love the outdoors, but sports-wise, I've stuck with snowboarding, and competitive grilling*.

You?

*This is totally a thing.

GO RED!!!

I've been playing football since I could walk. I didn't anticipate playing college ball because I'm slightly shorter than the average athlete... But I lucked out and now play Varsity football at Cornell.

I played soccer all throughout high school and it is hands down my favorite sport. Such an adrenaline rush! I really want to go to Brazil for one of the World Cup games in 2014; that'd be so cool! Like Demian, I also don't watch much tv so don't really keep up on team stats but I'm a Spain fan (and not surprised they took home the Euro Cup victory!).

I also just joined the taekwondo team at Brown this past semester and am training this summer and it's been great! I'll be cheering on the US taekwondo team in the Olympics for sure.

@Demian: Competative grilling? You should definitely show us what you can do once we all get to Mountain View. Cook out, anyone?

I was always pretty terrible at sports, although I do like baseball and am a loyal Padres fan (last I checked, they had the second to worst record this season...awww). I was more of a band kid, so the closest I came to competitive sports was an activity called drum corps, where we would go on a summer-long tour and practice 12 hours every day in the sun (in places like Arizona and Louisiana), and compete against other groups. For a bunch of music nerds, it's actually pretty hardcore

And there's my nerdy contribution for the day!

Give me a G...G! give me an O...O! okay im sure yall get the point. I was a cheerleader on our varsity squad all throughout high school! Please no comments about cheerleading not being a sport...cause it definitely is. I also played a little tennis in middle school but cheerleading is definitely my sport! I miss it so much! Besides that I'm a fan of all the athletics at my school, Baylor University!! National Champs right here! haha and the Philadelphia Eagles...lets hope they have a better season this year lol

Looking forward to reading more about you all!

From around the age of 11 or 12 until I graduated High School, Track and Field was my sport of choice. Specifically, I was a hurdles man (the 110 meters and 300 meters). Going to college, I decided to leave the sport behind, and now i'm just a super fan.

Now, other than working out to stay in shape, I play a lot of tennis. My friends and I picked up the sport a few years ago and I've been addicted ever since. During the summer we can be found on the courts until the early morning (for temperature's sake).

I don't watch much televised sports either (other than Tarheel Basketball!!!), but I'm an olympics fanatic. The '08 games were the first year I actually thoroughly watched and I found them so inspiring/thrilling that I can't wait for this years! Naturally I'll be watching Track and Field, but also beach volleyball, gymnastics, and everything in between!

By the way Demian, I'd be more than happy to judge any grilling competition!

I did track and field in high school. I also did hurdles (110) and I tried the 400 hurdles but that race is brutal. Other than that I was a short sprinter, helped with relays etc. I also used to play soccer for awhile, but a couple injuries and not enough practice time led me to stop playing senior year on. I still play rec.

The sport I really came to love was fencing - I did it spontaneously in high school and fell in love with it, became captain (though I wasn't good at all) and started getting serious about it, but when college came scheduling was too hectic and I couldn't continue, though it's such a fun sport.

I am a bit of a sports fanatic. While I am not the most athletic individual, I played soccer, softball, and basketball in high school. My roommates in college were all varsity athletes, and I wanted to be like them so I continued to play JV basketball and soccer in college.

I am a huge Philadelphia sports fan, and can usually be found planted in front of a tv when they are playing. I have been going to Phillies game with my family since I was little, and still try to get home to see a game with my dad whenever I can. Also a pretty big soccer fan.

Hey everyone!

Like Sinjihn, I ran track througout high school.  I was a sprinter and ran the 100m, 200m, 300m (during indoor) and the 400m.  I also participated in relays from time to time and had a few runs with the hurdles.  My senior year, I stopped running so that I could focus on college and my student government.

Currently, I do not play any sports in college, but am a huge NFL football fan (COWBOY NATION!), and I also enjoy watching college basketball.

*sigh* hey guys

This is such a touchy subject for me lol. *cues sad violin music* I ran track in high school as well. I was a sprinter all 4 years, ran the 100m, 200m and ran the first leg of our varsity 4x1 and 4x2 relays. While I was on the team we were city champs for 3 years and sectional champs for 2. Senior year was my time to shine because I was considering running in college. Sectionals came around (the meet where you qualify for state). My relay got first place but I unfortunately pulled my hamstring on my first stride out the blocks in the 100m finals. Worst feeling ever. Someone had to take my place in my relays and I had to go to the state meet and watch because my leg didn't heal in time. Tragic right? Anywho, I planned to run track for the University of Illinois, already talked to the coach and discussed summer workouts. Then mid summer I chickened out and told her I didn't want to run anymore. Biggest mistake I've ever made.

But in addition to track I love dance and gymnastics!

Well...

I have played many sports in my lifetime. I have played soccer, basketball (center, forward), football (LB, DE, & TE), I ran track (100m, 200m, 400m), and I took up swimming. Eventually, I began to concentrate more on basketball and football. Since I'm so tall and athletic, I couldn't avoid playing either of those, and I ESPECIALLY had to play football because my father grew up playing football in high school, college, and he played in the NFL.

...but, ironically..... I really don't like sports. My whole family is full of athletes and sports fanatics, but I'm not into it as much.  I don't watch tv often, so i don't keep up with sports teams, and I stopped playing varsity football in high school to focus on other pursuits. I still try to remain active, and I'm naturally athletic, but I don't get into it. The only football teams I really watch (if I am watching) are the Patriots and the Steelers.

Go figure. Lol.

I'm a bit of a combination of Nikki and Cameron on this one...

My parents made me try out sports growing up and I didn't really like any of them. I ran track in high school, but I didn't run junior or senior year to focus on classes and stuff. I was in the band those two years as well - I played clarinet haha. I quit after sophomore year to focus on a rock band I was part of and I have to say, vocals, guitar and piano were a lot more fun!

These days I mostly follow the Colts, the Steelers, and Real Madrid. I don't get to watch many games though.

By the by, I like the idea someone threw out of a hangout on Google+ (although it might be hard for me to attend from Hong Kong haha).

I played tennis all throughout highschool, and I continue to play on the club team at WashU.  I love it because its a lifetime sport that I know I'll be able to play as I get older.  I also love watching tennis (GO FEDERER!).

However, the sport I've actually been playing most of lately is pick up basketball.  Not too competitive or anything, but its still a lot of fun.  Go Lakers and Go Team USA!!!!

I know the feeling, Janel! I actually tore my hamstring first meet of my senior season. Needless to say, my season was done. It wasn't really sad though, because by that point I had really made up my mind that I didn't wanna run anymore.

Hi Everyone!

Like Chierra, I too was a varsity cheerleader all throughout highschool. It's kind of strange because I thought cheerleaders were the most annoying people in the world when I was younger lol but when I got to highschool someone made a comment that I wouldn't make it if I tried so I had to prove them wrong. Somehow I made it, ended up loving it, and was actually really good at it.

Aside from that I have a huge infatuation with college football. I can't stand the NFL, but I love college football. I actually made my college decision based on the football team (insane I know). My favorite team is non other than the Texas Longhorns \m/. I don't watch much tv either but I spend every Saturday in the fall glued to ESPN or The Longhorn Network (we're the only college with our own 24 hour sports channel!).

Hey guys,

I'm actually a huge football fan, but recently my roommates last year really got me into soccer. My favorite club team is AC Milan. Like Vanilla I am also a huge longhorn fan at UT Austin, and on Saturdays in the fall you can find my friends and I at DKR stadium \m/. The events I am looking forward to watching the most at the Olympics are soccer and swimming. I'd like to see if Phelps can come back and still pick up some golds after his scandal a few years back.

I have dabbled in numerous sports in my childhood. I played tennis, I ran track, I received an orange belt in karate, and I was even a cheerleader until I found Dance.  (I like to consider Dance a sport. Lol It takes just as much endurance and hard work as many other sports!)  I danced for about 10 years but stopped when I got to college :(

As far as my favorite teams go, I love everything DALLAS i'm a cowboys fan, a dallas Mavericks fan, and even the Starz hockey team is fun to keep up with!  College teams are fun to keep up with also! Even though i'm in D.C. I love to show my Longhorn pride their football team is awesome.  And you can't forget about Baylor.

Hello everyone!

I love to be active! Starting at the age of six until my junior year of high school I was a competitive swimmer. I competed for a year-round team and also did some water polo on the side. After completing the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon summer of my junior year I decided I enjoyed running much more than swimming. Senior year I gave cross-country and track a shot instead of swimming. It was a big risk but I ended up competing at the varsity level and earned myself a spot on the Division I Cross-Country & Track team at Santa Clara. I also did ski racing in middle school and went to a ski camp in New Zealand, which was such a beautiful and adventurous country. This summer my dad and I have been the best of buds and are working on picking up surfing.

So all in all my favorite activities are running, skiing, surfing, cycling, and swimming! I've been doing my best to follow the tour de France and I cannot wait to follow the Olympic games this summer! Sounds like so far we have an active group which should be fun:)

As a kid, I used to dabble around with a variety of sports, especially tennis, though those days are long gone seeing that the last time I ever played a full game was on the Wii (and lost). Living in the Bay Area however, I think i've been fortunate enough to take advantage of this awesome weather to do a variety of outdoorsy activities, but my personal favorites have been running, hiking, biking and skiing. I did some track and field in high school like most of the other folks here, but it just wasn't my thing. I have however, discovered Ultimate to be a pretty awesome game.

As for watching sports, I do occasionally follow the Oakland A's and the San Francisco Giants, but probably not enough to keep a sustained conversation with another true fan. I enjoy watching college football as well, usually rooting for the USC Trojans. Like the rest of you, I also do look forward to cheering for my favorite team Wadiya during the Olympics this year.

My most exciting sporting experience was when, in my senior year, I was on my high school's female football team. In elementary school, I was always one of the last people to be picked when choosing teammates. So my high school's Powderpuff team was my way of defying the nonathletic persona I acquired while in school. Plus the jerseys were super awesome!
I have always been an avid bike rider. After hearing the stories of the colorful bikes around the Mountain View campus, I cannot wait for the day I can take one for a spin!

Hey everybody!

So I love this topic simply because sports was everything to me growing up. My two main sports were soccer and basketball. I excelled at both and had played competitively( AAU basketball and Travel Soccer) since I was seven years old. I can remember traveling throughout Ohio and eventually the country playing both sports (sometimes during the same weekend). However, when the traveling expenses became to overbearing, I began to play the sports seasonally. When I entered high school, I had aspirations of playing division 1 ball in either sport and played varsity for all four years. Sadly, my shortcomings in sports developed by me being injury prone at crucial times. It seemed like I was never healthy in all of my high school years, and It definitely hurt my recruitment and improvement as an athlete. When it came down to a college decision, my dreams of playing division 1 ball were completely shattered because the best offer I could receive was a division 2 college. It wasn't a bad offer, but I knew I wasn't going to play professional basketball or soccer, so that factored into me giving up sports for good. Thankfully, I am at Morehouse College, an intellectually competitive environment, and it gives me the same thrill as basketball and soccer! Deviating away from my sentimental story (lol), I look forward to watching basketball, track and field, swimming, gymnastics, and beach volleyball while watching the olympics. Lastly, just by reading these threads, I still can't wait to meet you all in person!!  Stay great!

Hey all,

I suppose I'm one of the many immersion cheerleaders! Hands down my favorite sport, because as Chierra said it is definitely a sport. I don't cheer at Penn, but I gave it a good run in high school. We don't have a professional sports team in lil' ole Mississippi, so I'm expected to cheer for either the Grizzlies or the Hornets when I'm home, but I became an OKC Thunder fan this year. Basketball is just about the only sport I keep up with. Lebron's OK, I guess lol

Hey!!

So I’m a huge sports fan, playing and watching!  I played travel soccer for a long time, and in High School I ran the 400 & 800 (worse race ever btw) where I became friends with Blaire Chennault!  I also competed on my school’s cross-country team.

My favorite sport to watch would have to be football!  I have complete faith that Matthew Stafford will help lead the Detroit Lions to a Super Bowl!

But Chris Helton, I’m a HUGE Carolina Tarheel fan too!  Many of my relatives, and my sister attended the school…I’m pretty sure I have more Carolina gear then Cornell, even my car has a Carolina bumper sticker instead of a Cornell one!0

Hey everyone! I love sports too, and being active in general! One of my favorite sports teams is the Wisconsin Badgers, which might seem strange at first glance, considering I went to Indiana for a year, am now going to Northwestern, and I live in Illinois. But the Badgers are in my blood! Both my parents, my grandparents, my aunt and uncle, and my brother graduated from UW Madison, so I've been attending football and basketball games there since I was little. I like the Hoosiers (Indy) as well (I'm not sure if any of you guys saw the IU and University of Kentucky basketball game!? Amazing!) and I've been to a few Blackhawks games as well (Chicago hockey!!). And of course, my number one sports team is the NU WILDCATS! (To be honest... I think I've only seen them play when I was attending a Badger game because I am just now transferring from IU, but there is no doubt in my mind I will fall in love with them as quickly as I did the university!)
When it comes to actually partaking in sports, I really like running, tennis, dance, and YOGA! I danced and played tennis all throughout elementary, middle, and high school, and took up running and yoga just a few years ago. I also love the slopes and have been skiing my entire life!
