Hey,
I'm a team founder for 4 of team "Gridcoin's" BOINC projects and I have been tasked with creating a newsletter of sorts for the entire BOINC team (~2000 active, 7000 total).
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/48049-email-marketing-via-team-founder-newsletter/The issues that I feel are impeding this goal are:
- There's no built-in team-messaging system in the majority of BOINC projects. One or two projects have a built-in team messaging system (such as WCG), but the majority of BOINC projects just supply a large list of your team's email addresses for you to directly contact.
- 95% of team members have shared their email address with myself (Raised this issue: https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/44783-boinc-project-email-privacy-settings/ & https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/1491 ). I feel that the majority of team members thought they were only sharing their email address with the project administrators, thus a team-wide email campaign could be negatively received by those unaware that they have granted me access to their email address.
- EU regulations against 'spam' are serious, for example in the UK:
- The regulations can be enforced against an offending company or individual anywhere in the European Union. The Information Commissioner's
Office has responsibility for the enforcement of unsolicited e-mails
and considers complaints about breaches. A breach of an enforcement
notice is a criminal offence subject to a fine of up to £500,000
depending on the circumstances.
- Another quote I found was for every offending 'spam' email, the offender would be liable for like £500 in fines..
- In order to comply with EU anti-spam regulations, one needs to supply full contact details within the email. This means either creating a business solely for privacy or using my personal details (no privacy).
Has any other team founder considered the above issues when emailing their team members? Any advice or recommended services I could use for privacy and compliance with anti-spam laws?
Thanks,
CM.
