Team Boiled Peanuts,
Two-weeks till the MCM.
I hope everyone was able to complete their last medium to long run
this weekend!
I ran the irecycle 1/2 marathon this weekend in Spartanburg as my tune
up for MCM. I finished under 1:38:00. Race director thought it would
be cute to throw in a three-quarter mile long hill at mile 11. You
wonder sometimes if the people who lay out the course actually run.
So how did everyone's weekend go?
I want to thank Melissa for the link to tips on how to run the MCM.
Hydration and rest are the tips I would stress for the next two-weeks.
Remember to download and print out your e-confirmation for the MCM.
You will need this to pickup your bib, chip, and goody bag at the
expo.
I still have not had a confirmation for the White House Tour. I
hopefully will hear this week.
The capitol tour is a go for Friday at 2:30 pm. We have space for
thirty. If you should need to contact me you can reach me on my
mobile (864) 420-5405.
GO TEAM BOILED PEANUTS!

Worst training run ever. It was 77 degrees and high humidity. I was on a trail doing a 15 miler. Both legs started cramping at mile 9. I walked 3 miles (still cramping) before I got to a gatoraid and power bar that I had set out earlier. After sucking those down I was able to do a slow trot for the last 3 miles.

Very discouraged at the moment. I feel like I was more prepared 4 weeks ago rather than right now.

I had a similar experience this weekend and did some reading on leg cramps. Heat and dehydration are two big reasons.....

I'm hoping for cooler temperatures in DC and planning to drink like a fish (water that is)!

David-

Hang in there buddy.  I, too, had a similar incident a few weeks back but like you I endured and covered the distance I had set out to cover that day.   The humidity can be extremely tough on our bodies and I’ve focused on drinking plenty of fluids the day before and up to 30 minutes before I’ve set out on my long runs.

The good news, as you well know, is that you can begin taking fluids very early in the marathon before most of us get to the “spot” we put drinks out or stop at a store…..trust me, I’ve said more than one prayer that it will be cool and lower humidity.  Looks like the weather up through the 21st for Washington is highs 65ish and lows 45-48…..that will help big time!

Again, you covered the distance buddy and your body knows that…………….you’re going to be fine come 8am on 10/25/09.

Later friend.

Paul
