Team Boiled Peanuts,
Ok! Three weeks to go.
Hope everyone got their last long run in this weekend.
Did I mention I hate long runs?
I covered 24-miles at an 8:16 pace.
I know Paul Reardon blistered 20-miles at a 7:31 pace and Travis
knocked his 20-miler out.
How bout the remaining Boiled Peanuts? So let's hear your stories!
For everyone who ordered a wick/dry shirt I will have the shirts in
DC.
Good luck to everyone the next couple of weeks.
I look forward to seeing everyone in DC.

I got 23 miles in yesterday...I look forward to running with folks... The dogs that greet me around here aren't fun to run with or from. :-)

DC or bust!

when will we know whether we're definitely doing the white house tour or not?

also.......what are yall planning to wear for the run?
i'm a girl so i can ask this :)
seriously though....does anyone know what the weather's usually like in DC this time of year?whats the best way to dress for a marathon? do you carry gels, etc with you? what do you do with your hotel keys, etc while you're running?
thanks for any help or advice!

The White House is to accept or to decline our tour two weeks prior to
the scheduled date of the tour. I plan to firm this up with the
Senator's office next week. Keep our fingers crossed.
The avg temp for DC in late October is in the low to mid 50's for
highs. But this can be subject to change so I would not pack until we
are within the 5-day forecast.
If we do have a cool start I would plan on layers. Maybe an old long
sleeve tee (over a short sleeve wick/dry) that you don't mind
discarding along the race course as the day heats up. Shorts or
running pants I'll leave that to your preference. Remember that in
liberal doses body glide, Vaseline and band-aids are your best friend.
Pack this second after your marathon day shoes.
If you have a preference I would carry the gels or jelly beans with
you. You never know what or how far in between the maraton course
these will be offered.
On the hotel key/card I always place this under the hill of my shoe
insert or cushion with my license and some cash. Never know when you
might want to stop for a drink or hail a cab.
Just remember to pack your marathon day shoes first. The rest you can
buy at the expo when you get there.
Hope this helps.

I got my 22 miler in, but I feel like I was walking compared to
y'all!!!!

I felt horrible afterward, but I am hopeful that I will make it after
my taper.

I'll be the Boiled Peanut in the bottom of the pot at the end of the
day.... The saltiest and the last one out!

I agree w/ Allan. My recommendation would be to practice what you will wear, eat, etc on one of your long runs to make sure that combination works. Gels work best for me but only a particular brand; if you are the same way, I would avoid taking gels from the race when they hand them out. My husband and I ran it 3 years ago and they had sports beans at mile 21 I think; I took some and just started eating them but regretted it soon after. Just my 2 sense:)
Thanks for the hotel key idea Allan...I never thought about that and always just put my hopes in the bag returns...that is a much more reliable plan!
Looking forward to it...
I think we are running an easy 22 this weekend...easy easy.

Good morning everybody,
I'm just hoping to avoid being dehydrated since that happened to me the last 2 marathons. I would like to get under 3:40. My confidence is the same as before but I have no idea how I will finish. I will keep my fingers crossed.
Donnie, I know you are going to do well, along with everybody else. Just make sure you have an IV waiting for me at the finish.

Have a good day everyone.

My goal is under 4 hours.. If I get a 3:59:59 i will be so happy.  Last weekend I ran a marathon, just as a training run in 4 39..  I never got worn out but the drive home killed my legs.  2 hours of driving after a marathon is a bad idea...
