Ihave been committing "Puff the Magic Dragon" to memory for a kids program. Peter Yarrow wrote the song, based on some recall of his friend (Leonard Lipton) typing the original poem on Peter's typewriter at Cornell, in 1958. That original piece of paper was lost. When Peter called Leonard to offer a share of the royalties, Leonard mentioned there was a final verse, but he could not recall it, only that eventually another child showed up and Puff came out of his cave once again to enjoy his new playmate. Thus it would have been a happy song and not the sad song most took it to be.
Look at the older "Raggle Taggle Gypsies", where the song is based on the FACT that Johnny Faa was hanged for seducing the wife of a nobleman, and the much later "Whistling Gypsy Rover", where the lady is not the WIFE, but the DAUGHTER, and the gypsy is not REALLY a vagabond wanderer, but "lord of these lands all over"
(Note that I changed "and we'll all be gay" to "For the Big Parade", since the current climate does not allow anyone to predict that anyone else will become gay.)
ALSO note that one of my many brothers, for his OWN performance, once changed "TURN out", to "PUT out", much to the delight of the returning veterans in HIS audience.)
My explanation and thoughts...to be PC Yarrow started singing the line ..."a dragon lives forever, but no so little boys" to "a dragon lives forever, but no little girls and boys". So in keeping gender neutral or questionable (like Jackie Paper) I named the kid "Pat" and the Puff and Pat thing go together.
though I do think the original intent of the poem and song is about kid growing up and moving on to older kid interests etc. I did try to keep the mystery of it being a drug song debate by using words and phrases like "high" in their favorite tree...and "trip" the stars and gaze down on the sea. t
I thought my response was carefully calculated to ENCOURAGE you to edit my wording.
Nothing for you to be the LEAST bit sorry about.
Keep on picking, keep on grinning, and keep exposing the youths and youthettes of our nation, yea, of the WORLD, to the glories of Banjo.

Great, I would not want to upset anyone on an exercise such as this, again thank you for sharing your lyrics and wit. I figure as the topic dies out, I will review all of the suggestions and poetic offerings and construct a final verse...to use when I sing it to younger kids. After all, Yarrow did same. as with many folks songs of cloudy origin.
The song isn't gender neutral, since it says "A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys". I didn't get around to writing an extra verse, but I was thinking of something along the lines of
Jackie coming back years later, bringing his daughter (or grand daughter) to play with Puff. I liked the idea that girls would love to play with dragons too.
If everything goes according to plan, the PUFF Token will become the primary means to purchase NFTs, in-game items, upgrades, and more within the Puffverse ecosystem. Today, the PUFF token is not available on any chain. We will let you know when the token launches on Ronin. Stay tuned for more details!
I pulled up the song on YouTube (see the first Video Recommendation for the Week below) and listened some more. I read comments about the emotion it conjured. And the love for the song some 55 years after its recording.
One comment on the video page caught my attention with a new perspective. It was a final verse not in the original song. I am not sure of the origin. In the second Video Recommendation for the Week below, Peter Yarrow actually draws from these words at the end of the clip.
In this time of pandemic, lockdowns, loss of life, and unimagined dislocations, can we look to a time (in the near future) when we will be able to wipe away the tears, emerge from the cave, and once again play along the cherry lane?
These NFTs will offer various benefits and exclusive access within the Puffverse ecosystem such as IGO Points, which will soon be exchangeable for $PUFF tokens, and double experience points (EXP) in PuffSim Adventures.
Puffverse is a Disney-like gaming ecosystem that combines various games and activities. The core of Puffverse revolves around unique NFT characters called Puffs, which players can collect, trade, and use across different games.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave oh
Hi! My name is RaeLynn and this is my husband Alex. We are the parents of 5 amazing children, 3 wonderful sons in law, 1 beautiful daughter in law, and 7 fantastic grandchildren. That count is subject to change. I consider myself to be greatly blessed to have spent my life as a stay at home mom working on my family, the most important project life has to offer.
How I treasure those days when they were little and we played games on the floor, took walks through the park examining every flower and tree, sang silly songs, read books and played with imaginary characters. Through their young eyes, I saw the magic of the world again. The beauty of the snow, the thrill of a rainbow in the sky after a storm, the joy of feeling the soft spring rain on my face. Through their imagination, I hid from the ghost, fought with the Ninja turtles, tossed food to Bernard the alligator that lived in our basement.
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys. Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys. One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more. And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain. Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane. Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave, so Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave.
While the last verse of the song sounds so sad, I still enjoy my grandchildren who are now almost all young adults. Our relationship is different, of course, but I enjoy hearing about their studies, their new careers, their hopes and dreams. It is neat to relate to them more as adult to adult than adult to child.
Twelve years ago, my last grandchild was born. Coming after the rest of the grandchildren were past the days of Puff and the magic dragon, I was thankful for one last chance at visiting the magic land of Honah Lee.
Every moment with her has been a joy just for herself along. But I have also relived the past years with my other grandchildren as I watched her explore and discover the world all around her just as they did. Sometimes something she said or did brought my mind back to another time, another grandchild.
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings, and sealing wax, and other fancy stuff
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave
He told of days with princes and travels with his friend
He thought those days on cherry lane would never, ever end
His son was thrilled with all his tales and laughter soon rang out
From in his cave old Puff awoke and set sail on his boat
So I had to sit down and write a happy ending for Puff. As I understand it, at one point there was another verse, and later the writer wrote a book with a happy ending. But here is my version, I hope it makes some people happy.
[Chorus]
OH! Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honahlee
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honahlee
With a range of themes and gameplay modes, PuffGo also features UGC functions, which lets users craft their own game maps. In the future, the broader vision is to allow users to create their own metaverses. This will further be enhanced by the integration of AIGC (Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content), which lets users control the AI tool via text commands.
