Subject: Ethnic Groups

The Mayor of Cincinnati wants to make our area more inviting to immigrants of all sorts. To that end, Cincinnati Compass has been formed in conjunction with the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. Steve Driehaus and Bryan Wright are spearheading this effort. 

One of the first things they are doing is trying to find out who is here already. What countries are represented here? How many people from those countries have settled here? Who within each community could they talk to to explain what Cincinnati Compass is? How can they learn what the concern and needs of the communities are? What kind of information would be helpful to the communities? Who are prominent members that could be celebrated or recognized by the City? Does the community have sports teams, dance, music, art groups or lessons? What about religious organizations related to their language or culture?

The idea is to compile this information to perhaps have an International Festival in the future, make the city, village and county governments as well as businesses aware of the contributions of immigrants, and to have information that can be given to newcomers looking to find Cincinnati links to their culture or language. These are just a few of the things Cincinnati Compass hopes to accomplish.

I have known Steve Driehaus and Bryan Wright for some years now. They are good people. I am trying to help them locate ethnic organizations and contact people for each community. Can you help? Any information you can provide would be helpful.This is just a first step.
