The Bozeman Creek Enhancement Committee is planning our first annual
creek cleanup on Saturday, October 1st, and we're hoping to get the
neighborhood associations along Bozeman Creek excited about
participating. We'll stage the event at Bogert Park, meeting there at
9 a.m., working on the creek from 10 a.m. until about 1 p.m., then
returning to Bogert for food. For this first year, we're wanting to
focus on trash that people can pick up by hand, plus heavier stuff
that might require equipment to remove but that is not embedded in the
bed and banks.
We're hoping that BPNA, along with BCNA, NENA, and the Downtown
Bozeman Partnership, will be a partner with us in this event. You can
help by promoting the event among your membership, and soliciting not
only volunteer workers but landowners who'd like the cleanup to
include their property. Since most of the creek is privately owned,
we're wanting to identify several creek reaches where the landowners
are supportive, and direct crews there.
The BCEC will handle the overall logistics and fundraising; it would
be helpful if someone from each neighborhood association could help
organize the volunteers in your neighborhood. This might also help
with neighborhood association promotion and recruitment.
We're also very interested in hearing from creekside landowners who
would like help removing embedded bank trash and revetments, like old
cars, appliances, and construction debris. We'll plan on helping them
in subsequent years, when we have time to obtain stream alteratiuon
permits and plan how to restore banks that we disturb.
Let me know what you think of this -
