Probably not, and it definitely shouldn't be construed as a warning that
next time something that's actually useful might get taken out.

Hmm... I'm a bit confused over this tithe business. Is it allowable to
tithe to a will-be LWC member[i]? I *do* hope so, since I, in a fit of
almost-confusion, tithed one piece of Plopp[ii] and a 5cl bottle of
Bailey's. The latter contains chocolate and is good and therefore
definitely falls under the tithe obligation. ;)

I appreciate the sentiments expressed here, but it seems exteremely unlikely
that a situation like this occurs extensively.

http://www.peacefire.org also contains some interesting material for those
interested in the ethics of blocking programs. (There was no mention of
sex in the previous sentence, for which I apologise.)

>[1] Note the "men" bit - it doesn't fall under the child porn laws

I think this case was brought up in the program I watched, so it may have
been about art and pornography in a more general sense.

I can't really see the point in pornography myself. I do wonder if
the fact that people spend so much time trying to suppress it isn't
actually at least partly responsible for its popularity though.

I can't seem to make up my mind where I actually stand on it though,
since I do think it promotes unpleasant attitudes towards women.

Anyone who wants to discuss it with me should probably take it to
email.

Indeed. Quote from comp.risks digest 19.56:

All of a sudden, my programming files were being corrupted in odd
places. I thought "hmm, my copy must be corrupt". So I refreshed the
files. No change. "hmm, the code depot copy must be corrupt".. Checked from
other machines. No problem there. Viewed the file from a web based change
browser in Internet Explorer. Same corruption in the file. Telnet-ed
to the server machine and just cat-ed the file to the terminal. Same
problem. What's going on?

The lines that were corrupted were of the form
#define one 1 /* foo menu */
#define two 2 /* bar baz */
What I always saw ON THIS MACHINE ONLY was:
#define one 1 /* foo */
# fine two 2 /* bar baz */

unquote

Nice, innit?

Some does, sure. So does some Great Literature. On the whole, the folks
I've known who've had serious porn habits have been people with rather
healthy attitudes toward sexuality in general (the whole scope of it,
including l/g/bi people, poly people, and the kink crowd). Of course,
those are the people who are looking at explicit porn - not, say, Playboy.

In fact, some of the most avid porn consumers I've known have been Lesbian
Avengers and separatist dykes. *shrug* Whatever floats one's boat, as
long as it's photos of legal activities (not snuff or kids), is fine with
me. It's a big world. We can't all get off the same way.

I dunno that I necessarily draw the line at "legal activities," seeing as
over here you can't readily depict genital contact and BDSM in the same
picture, for example. Snuff and kids, yeah, that's definitely going too far.

"clearly nonconsenting parties" is my line, I guess.

Sound's like it. American cops are just as pig-headed about such things. A
local comic book shop got busted years ago over a sale of a comic book to a
"minor". It ended up being a copy of 'The Score' which isn't exactly the same
as 'Cherry' or some such, and the original complaint that led to the sting
operation was a mom who PAID FOR THE COMIC for her 14 year old. Basically,
it was a title that was mixed in with a bunch of other titles. The minor
never purchased it...

The sting operation used the 17 year-old son of a police seargent (and the
kid was turning 18 in about 2 months). The Gainesville Pig Department insisted
on carrying the case to the wall even though popular opinion was "What the
hell?" when the details came out.

So they pushed it until it went to trial, and the Judge looked at it and
tossed the case out. Not enough evidence, improper procedures, etc. Plus she
expressed the general opinion that the GPD were wasting a LOT of taxpayers
money on a nonsense issue.
