I have a HP notebook. A short way to bypass teh problem without modifing your system registry it to run "msconfig". In the "Services" disable all. Restart PC and install S-7 software. Re-enable all services and restart PC.
Excellent information from all. I have one other item to add. I have had several cases in which the Windows Installer seemed to be the cause of the error. I had tried unregistering and re-registering but found one note from Microsoft helpful. Article ID 888109 on support.microsoft.com. It also led to another article on updating Installshied. On consumerdocs.installshield.com, doc ID Q108322. I had to reinstall ISScript10.msi and after that things installed fine.
Good news, I followed the instructions, and modyfied every single .msi (in order to enable the ignore button in every step 7 component) and setup files (for adding the windows 8/10 "compatibility") all with good results and no warnings except for the ignore windows version button.
I followed the procedure with STEP7 v5.5 SP1, installed ok but there were complaints after reboot, regarding pniopcac.exe- apparently a file from the NET package. Then tried to install the SP4 upgrade(which is a full STEP7 installation, but will not install on its own). Even after modifying all msi files, I kept getting a complaint that my platform Winidows8???(not Windows10) is not suitable. Then I ran the SP4 upgrade in compatibility mode for Windows7, and it went fine, except for the attached. My notebook is an upgraded Windows8.1
I try to install STEP 7 Professional 2010 SR4 on windows 10. I followed all steps in the first post but I have always the some error message: "The software cannot be installed on your computer with the operating system windos 8.1 Professional Esition x64"

The Simatic Batch Bridge Windows Service will install using the LocalSystem account as the Service Logon account by default.Some Simatic Batch deployments may require to use specific user credentials for function calls (SetCurrentUser). Specific account credentials may be provided during install via. the Package Manager Configuration String property value or set manually on the system hosting the Bridge.

As of TIA Portal V14, the built-in remote access utility called WinCC Sm@rtServer is now available to Basic Panels and no longer requires a separate license for Comfort Panels. This means that if you have a Comfort Panel-running device (version 14.0.0 or later), you can remotely access your panel from a PC, tablet, or smartphone without the need for an additional license. All you have to do is set up the Sm@rtServer on the panel and use Internet Explorer or the Sm@rtClient app to control it.
I have chosen to start the Sm@rtServer automatically after the panel boots and to keep it running even after the runtime closes. Keep in mind that you can also start or stop the Sm@rtClient from within the runtime using the ControlSmartServer event.
Additionally, using the setting No local input during client sessions can be used to make the panel unresponsive while a remote connection is active, thereby preventing interference by a local operator while a remote session is in progress.
You will be prompted to install Java if your computer does not already have it installed. Then you will be prompted for the password that you set up. Once you enter the password, you should be able to see the current HMI screen.
If the password you used had View Only unchecked, then you can navigate through the HMI using your mouse and keyboard. If you prefer, you can also connect through a VNC viewer program of your choosing instead of Internet Explorer.
For an even more mobile solution, Siemens offers a Sm@rtClient app that is available for iOS and Android operating systems. This means any smartphone or tablet can be used to connect to your panel, provided they are on the same network as the panel.
Remote access to the HMI is a great asset in times when a direct line of sight from the panel to a particular part of the system is impeded or anytime when a user who is not physically near the system needs access to the HMI. It also allows for remote monitoring of operations from another location. However, you should always keep in mind the security risks of enabling the Sm@rtServer on a network that is not adequately secured.
