Rather a common plant. I have seen a lot of this plant in Kashmir, Manali, and other hill stations.

Dear Guru ji…

Thank you for posting this drug…It is called as “Sugandha Vaastuka” in AYurveda (Text of Bhava Prakasha nighantu, Shaka varga)..2 types of Vastuka have been explained in this test, the 1st variety is " Yavashaka" – equated to Chenopodium album

And the 2nd variety “sugandha vastuka” – equated to Chenopodium ambrosioides

Will post the medicinal properties later

Thank You

Chenopodium ambrosioides – “Sugandha vastuka”

Ayurveda explains this plant to be a best digestive, which increases taste, increases semen & Strength. Also it has been mentioned to be useful in Spleenic disorders, Piles & Intestinal worms.

Medicinal properties: The main usage of this plant in medicine is its age old administration in treating Intestinal worms especially in Ascaris, round worm & hook worm. This plant drug was used first by American Indians, as a household remedy for intestinal parasites.

The plant is also used in eye disorders, Cardiac disorders & general debility.

Mode of administration: just simply giving 10 drops of the oil extracted from the seeds or leaves is sufficient to expel all types of intestinal parasites.

The seeds: globular, compressed, with a thin grayish brown pericarp. The seeds are reddish, brown or black in colour, shiny, kidney shaped with a strong Eucalyptus like aromatic odour & a bitter pungent taste.

The Oil: the oil has no definite boiling point & when heated to 100 degree C. it explodes with great violent noice. Leaf contains Essential oil (Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal). Seed contains Saponins, essential oil, Ascaridole (Anti-hookworm) & it stimulates the Central Nervous system (Neurotoxic, dizziness, headache, deafness, drowsiness, coma). The Oil from India is found to be of Inferior quality when compared to the American counterpart. But Clinically Oil from Indian variety is found to be no less than the American Oil.

Thank You
