posting Ipomoea marginata (I.sepiaria, Convolvulus marginatus), Convolvulaceae - LAKSHMANA in Ayurveda

Habit: A Slender Twiner with a slightly thickened tuberous perennial root.
The term Lakshmana means the one having lucky signs or marks.
This plant is described as having leaves with blood like reddish marks on them
(Synonyms: Raktaalpabindubhilaanchitachada, Asrabinduchada, Raktabindusamam patram, Kalankaparni)
Synonyms like Putraada, Putrajanani - indicates the property of the drug to bestow a male child.
Also, The plant is described in Ayurveda as tuberous (Sukanda), creeper with a hairy stem (Romavallisamanvitam) and also flowers which are as white as cow's milk (Gokshirasadrusham pushpam).
Though many plants are considered to be the source of Lakshmana across the country, another species of the same genera with almost the same features is also taken as Lakshmana. which is I. obscura
It is one of the drugs in the group of Dashapushpa (Group of ten flowers)
Medicinal Uses: Promotes body strength, corrects vitiation of Pitta, very well reputed drug to cure sterility in women & instilled as drops in the nose to women who seek a male child.
Root is an important ingredient in "Maanasamitra vatakam".

Hindi: Bankalmi
Thamizh: Thali kodi
Malayalam: Thiruthali, Chutti thiruthali, Kolambi (Sorry Dinesh ji i could not provide them in the native script as there is some problem in my PC)
