Guruji...pls clarify us the differences between Premna serratifolia and P.mucronata...as because, the Agnimanta of Kerala state is different...i will post the photos of keraliya Agnimanta later, which is P. serratifolia hopefully...the accepted source of Agnimanta in other southern states is P. mucronata...and this seems to be that..

Small evergreen tree                                                    Small deciduous tree
Leaves usually serrate                                                 Leaves usually entire
Leaves not acuminate                                                  Leaves acuminate
Flowers greenish-yellow                                               Flowers greenish-white
Calyx 2-lipped, 3 toothed                                              Calyx equally 5-lobed

Hari ji and Sheji ji
Firstly there are only two species under consideration and not three:
Premna serratifolia (syn: P. obtusifolia; P. integrifolia)
Premna latifolia var. mucronata (syn: P. mucronata

The plant represented in this mail is P. serratifolia

Premna mucronata has distinctly acuminata leaves.

Dear Guru ji...

Am posting one of my wild life photographs...in which a Pumpkin beetle was found sitting on a Premna leaf... Lets forget the beetle here but when we observe the apex of this leaf, we can appreciate the mucronate nature correctly... The mid rib is found continuing till the apex of the leaf...which we may call it acuminate too. This species is what sheji ji has posted...and well known in the name P.mucronata. and marginal serrations are not clear here. instead it is serrulate. Premna serratifolia is clearly serrate for which i will add the photos tomorrow. Leaves are not this much large in P.serratifolia. they possess small leaves.

i do accept that Premna latifolia and Premna mucronata have been merged recently...but they were different before. now it is P.latifolia var.mucronata, which i too have mentioned it in my first reply.

Hari ji
Your leaf appears to be slightly different from one posted by sheji ji. May be if there are more photographs we can compare better.

Well this is not case of simple merger. Only that P. mucronata has been relegated from specific to varietal level under P. latifolia. We still have two distinct taxa:

Premna latifolia now named as Premna latifolia var. latifolia
Premna mucronata now named as Premna latifolia var. mucronata
