Habit - week climbing shrub
 
Regional name
 
Sanskrit - ghota/ suvaha
 
Malayalam- Amarccakkoti / cori valli/ velutha sori valli
 
Kannada - Kaamapatige balli/ kaama pathige balli
 
Tamil - siru valli kodi / kattuperandai/ kattup pirantai/ pannikkodi/ tiripatakam
 
Telugu - gummaditige/ edakula mandulamari/ gummadi tiga
 
Botanical name - Cayratia pedata
 
Family - Vitaceae
 
this is a critically endangered species, endamic to southern western ghats in Kerala& Tamilnadu.
 
leaves - aulternate,pedately 5-7 foliate, margine toothed, with bifercated tendrils
 
flower - greenish yellow, in axillary corymbs
 
fruit - berries,globose, smooth, cremy white
 
useful part - whole plant.
 
uses- in cough, skin diseases,bronchitis,joint pain,& checks uterine reflexes.

Thanks for the post Sheji ji... a new drug to me... havent heard about this before... i wonder that this drug is being used in Ayurveda.... even the sanskrit name ghota is new to me... but the term SUVAHA again confuses me... Charakokta mahakashaya mentions Suvaha in it...(Bhedaniya Mahakashaya). Am not sure whether the same synonym exists for any other drug other than Trivrut. Pls clarify...

Interesting to know that this plant is Endemic to W.ghats and Critically Endangered...It needs to be conserved...

yes hari, even a new drug for me too.. Tanay and friends helped in
identification,many thanks to them. this is just one compilation from
many sites, all together we wili find further ayurveda refferences.
