English Name-wild lemon , citron
   latin name   - citrus medica
   family        - Rutaceae
Sanskrit Name -Matulunga

Citrus juice also has medical uses; lemon juice is used to relieve the pain of bee stings. Oranges were historically used for their high content of vitamin C, which prevents scurvy. Scurvy is caused by vitamin C deficiency, and can be prevented by having 10 milligrams of vitamin C a day. An early sign of scurvy is fatigue. If ignored, later symptoms are bleeding and bruising easily. British sailors rationed citrus fruits on long voyages to prevent the onset of scurvy, hence the . After consumption, the peel is sometimes used as a facial cleanser. Before the development of fermentation-based processes, lemons were the primary commercial source of citric acid.

I this this is Citrus longilimon Tanaka, the Assam lemon
It has already been discussed on efloraofindia website.
It is a recently named species and as such you will find it listed as C. medica or C. limon in different websites.

Bijapuraka is very commonly used in the management of agnimandya(weak digestive power). It finds a place in “Phala Varga”(group of drugs wherein fruits are the useful part) in ancient medicine. Bijapuraka is one of the ingredients of Panchamla and Amlavarga (group of drugs having sour taste). Charaka classified it under “Hridya” (good for heart) and “Trishnanigrahana” (subsides thirst) groups. During 19th century, it is popularized through a preparation called ‘Madiphala Rasayana’ by Pandith Divi Gopalacharya.

Major Chemical Constituents – Abscisic acid, abcsicin II, limonin, limonene, limocitrol, rutin etc.

Indication – Vomitting, Hiccups, Indigestion, Pain abdomen, Urinary calculi.

Therapeutic uses :-

·         In ear ache, fresh juice of bijapura and kapittha are mixed and used as ear drops.

·         In renal calculi, root of bijapura with boiled and cooled water (paryushita jala) is useful.

·         Bark of bijapura taken with honey removes foul smell of flatus.

Citrus medica is known as Ganapathi Narakam in Malayalam. The given name 'ceru narakam' applies to Citrus lemon, the one we use to make lime juice.
Nice blog.
Too helpful.
A commendable endeavour.
