hello friends, after a long time i am able to open my e-mail, i am quit happy to see bodhinighantu is having good informative disscussion.

Once again i would like to be the part of bodhinighantu.

Sahachara / saireyaka= Strobilanthes heynianus,  what i feel sahachara & saireyaka is mentioned as Barleria species under BhavPrakash Nighantu, there are 4 varieties mentioned like white, yellow, red, blue.

In the image i have not seen any spiny appendages, so its my doubt that it may not be considered as sahachara.
please inform me where sahachara is mentioned as Strobilanthes heynianus.

                      thank you very much.

Dear Sunil ji, Aravind ji, Hari & Tanay ji,

As you all said Barleria prionitis is taken as a source of sahachara- 'kurunhi 'in malayalam

As Hari said ,this species is also concidered as sahachara here in Kerala in the name of ' Karim kurunhi'=black /dark sahachara.  while ordering for market sample we get one more variety called as ' Balussery Kurunhi' - dont know about its identity, i have one photo with out flower.

regards

sheji
