sir i think this is called as ಕಲ್ಲು ಬಾಳೆ(kallu bale) in kannada, the
word kallu(stone) came to this because seeds are larger in size just
like stones

Would like to add Suhas ji's provided name to my notes on validation; names compiled by me may also be validated.

Somit,

The plant that we use at the Trust for the lepam in OA is Canna indica rhizomes.

Thank you Somit ji for raising the question...& Reshmi ji for the clarification...I do remember Canna indica being called as Kalvaazhai (கல்வாழை)  in Thamizh language too... Although it is ornamental, the name persists as Kalvazhai as i have heard during my school days...It is a misnomer i agree. The real kalvazha is to be taken as Musa superba itself, as it grows in the crevices of the rocks. Thanks for the information that this plant is being used as a lepam in Osteo arthritis...
Thanks Reju ji for the additional information...

Hai,
Lots of work has been done on seeds of this plant at GAU, Jamnagar, even some publications are also available.
The term Bahuja may be due to presence of numerous seeds in fruit!
