CONTROVERSY OF THE DRUG
Most Scholars consider this plant "Nandivruksha" (नन्दीवृक्ष) to be one among the Kshiri vrukshas - क्षीरी वृक्ष (the group of tress possessing milky latex). and have tried to equate this term with Ficus retusa or Ficus arnottiana. But most others consider T.divaricata to be the source of Nandi vruksha, due to the regional names which has much similarities with that of the sanskrit term.
Like in
Malayalam: Nandyarvattam
Thamizh: Nandiyavattai, Nandiyarvattam ( நந்தியாவட்டை, நந்தியார்வட்டம் )
Kannada: Nandibatlu (ನಂದಿಬಟ್ಟಲು)
Telugu: Nandhivardhanamu ( నందీవర్ధానము)
Hence equating Nandhivruksha to T.divaricata would be correct, instead of any Ficus sp.
