There may well still be problems with the DeDRM plugin. If you find a book that can be decrypted with calibre 4.23 and DeDRM 6.8.1, but that does not decrypt with DeDRM 7.1.0, please send me to original encrypted book, and your key exported from the DeDRM 6.8.1 preferences. I will try to reproduce the problem and fix the bug. Please send books and keys to apprenti...@gmail.com
Is calibre DeDRM not working anymore? I make sure I have DeDRM plugins in calibre, but when I open the pdf in calibre, my acrobat keep telling me to open with digital edition and tells that the file is still have a DRM
The DRM removal plugin (DeDRM_plugin.zip) can be found in the tools archive linked from the most recent post in this blog. The DeDRM plugin can remove DRM from Kindle eBooks (but not rented Kindle ebooks, books downloaded to a Kindle Fire, Kindle for iOS or the Windows Store Kindle App), Barnes & Noble ePub ebooks (but not books downloaded to the Windows Store Nook App) , any ebooks using Adobe Digital Editions DRM (this includes ePubs from Kobo and Sony that are downloaded for Adobe Digital Editions), and the older Mobipocket and eReader ebooks. For other kinds of ebooks see the other posts in this blog.
The DeDRM calibre plugin removes DRM from ebooks as they are imported into calibre. So to use the plugin, just import your DRMed ebooks into calibre, and the DRM will be removed. If you have already imported your ebooks into calibre, you will need to remove the DRMed ebooks and import them again.
The calibre developers are not involved in the development of the DRM removal plugin, and are not able to help with any DRM removal questions. If you have any difficulties following the instructions in this post, the calibre developers will not be able to help.
Hi,
When I try to install the plugin, I get an error message: calibre, version 3.40.1
ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>InvalidPlugin</b>:The plugin in u'C:\\Users\\Owner\\Downloads\\DeDRM_plugin (1).zip' is invalid. It does not contain a top-level __init__.py file
W10 has Adobe Digital Edition installed. W11 does not. The book was downloaded from the library and is still within the 21 days I am allowed to read it. I am assuming that is why it is working on W10 and not on W11. I was under the impression that once it was loaded into calibre through the DeDRM plugin that it would be readable anywhere.
Here is another update to the DeDRM plugin 6.8.1. (if you are looking for the earlier version please scroll down). This was released in November 2020! Please note this version only works with Calibre 4.x versions and NOT THE LATEST version of Calibre 5.x You can download calibre 4.x version from this link.
You see this error may be because you added the whole archive file into calibre. Unzip the DeDRM_tools_6.8.1 archive, and look in the DeDRM_tools_6.8.1 folder for the zip file(named DeDRM_Plugin.zip and Obok_plugin.zip) to load into calibre.
Since Amazon started using new KFX format to Kindle eBooks, calibre plugin no longer works for unlocking DRM from KFX format. The DeDRM plugin here works with non-KFX Amazon books only, and the solutions introduced here are walkaround solutions, not the direct (quick) one.
after reading some more I'm not sure if I actually need that LCP support. I'm trying to decrypt an "ENCRYPTED ADOBE PDF" from archive.org. I found "/usr/share/calibre/system-plugins/DeDRM.zip:DeDRM_Adobe Digital Editions Key_Help.htm" that sounds like I might need to install "Adobe Digital Editions" with wine and config the used wineprefix in calibre somewhere.
@julielit I'd like to wait a bit first and see how this shakes out.Everybody who wants to build the package can use the PKGBUILD for the original version: =calibre-plugin-dedrm&id=affcd2cd45aff947220cbca7becb1b9713503d69
Did you find a fix for this? I first began experiencing this last week with the newest calibre and the newest plugin. I then downgraded and am also using older plugins and am still experiencing it. Would love a suggested fix!
In order to extract the DRM keys, a python script (provided by the calibre plugin) will need to be run within wine (ideally) by the calibre plugin itself. Hence, you need to install python within the wine environment.
If you're using winetricks installed from Ubuntu's repositories, on 18.04, then unfortunately only python-2.6 (which you can install with winetricks python26) is available. Because the calibre plugin currently hardcodes the path to a standard python-2.7 installation, that's suboptimal. Consequently you would either need to patch the calibre plugin or run the wine python script yourself and copy the decryption keys.
I installed the calibre, dedrm, and already had kindle for pc. I still can not convert any of my kindle books. Especially if it has it is an azw format I can not even read it on the calibre program. I do not know what I am doing wrong. I would like to know exactly how do you pull up the screen on calibre where you can insert the serial number of your kindle device? I can add books to the calibre library onto calibre but can only read the mobi formatted ones. Please help
It also has handy plugins for calibre, which is open source software for reading and converting various eBook formats as well as syncing to many different kinds of eBook readers. I highly recommend it.
