Nice job! HS diamonds can be tricky. But looks like you got it down. You
should have tried to finish the ends off with WS ground like you did in the
start so it would match and you wouldn¹t have that goof with the last HS
diamond. Just sayin........

Very nice work for the second exercise!

I don't own the book but fortunately Amazon has the page with the pattern in its preview, so I gave it a try. I started at the top of the diamond and ended after one of them. Bockens Nialin 22/2 (60% cotton, 40% linen).

Here' the result:

Need to start to do what you ask . A ground instead of half Diamond
would look better thaanks Duck.

I forgot to say what I wanted to show: first the start with pairs of bobbins with a single thread - to have one end without fringes (which is of course a matter of taste).
Secondly, ending with a row of torchon ground stitch - as you have seen, half stitch distorts easily if not finished.
To get the threads to the middle at the bottom, I made linen stitch with the topmost light pair on the right through the 3 pairs below, then again with the now topmost pair through two pairs, and again the topmost pair through one pair. Repeat on the left side. Simple knots with one thread from each side to finish off.

You made a very good start! Many of my first attempts look not half as good, and like Tatman said: halfstitch fillings are not the easiest because it can look all wrong while making it even when working correctly. So yes, practice is key, like for everything else we want to learn and get some proficiency in.

Very nice, Achim. I really enjoy patterns like this that are fairly
simple(to me) and a good lesson for the beginner and it gives them a product
in a timely manner and is a good gift for any occasion.

Thank, you! And I agree - it was really relaxing yesterday evening to get something done in just 2-3 hours.
