Trees Atlanta maintains the list of Champion Trees in metro Atlanta. The compilation of the list is a labor of love lead by an amazing volunteer team. The list includes specimens located mainly inside I-285; all trees are nominated and identified by community members then reviewed by trained Champion Trees volunteers.

Magnolias are part of an ancient lineage of flowering plants dating back approximately 95 million years. The Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum is home to 18 types of magnolias from evergreen to flowering. Two magnolias in particular have witnessed history as they were planted just beyond the outfield wall for the former Ponce de Leon Park, where the Atlanta Crackers played baseball. Babe Ruth and Eddie Matthews both hit home runs that were caught in the canopy of one of these magnolia trees. As part of Arboretum experimentation, we have taken cuttings from these historic magnolias and grown them into new trees so that this piece of history can live on the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum and in new parks and baseball fields around Atlanta.
Among the stateliest of our native trees, beeches are indicative of a mature forest. Though they can take around 40 years to produce a large quantity of nuts, beech trees are critical for wildlife. Beeches provide food and shelter for all kinds of birds and mammals, such as the red-headed woodpecker. Dubbed the fairy ring, the circle of beech trees here surrounds a granite outdoor classroom and gathering place where you can contemplate how the beech trees will look in 3, 5, and 10 years!

The World Boxing Council announced Monday that Terence Crawford has been downgraded to "champion in recess" in the welterweight division just a few months ahead of his debut at super welterweight against WBA 154-pound champion Israil Madrimov on Aug. 3.
"The WBC Board of governors has voted in favor to accept our proud WBC welterweight champion, Terence Crawford, to be placed as champion in recess in the welterweight division," the WBC said in a statement.
Crawford has not fought since knocking out Errol Spence Jr. in dominant fashion last July to become the undisputed 147-pound champion. But it appears Crawford's time at 147 pounds may be up, as the fighter out of Omaha, Nebraska, is pursuing world titles in higher weight classes.
"The WBC Board also voted in favor of officially sanctioning the Crawford vs. Madrimov as a final elimination bout for the mandatory position in the [154-pound] division," the WBC's statement continued.
Crawford, 36, is the former undisputed 140-pound champion and moved up to 147 pounds in 2018 to pursue a second weight class to become undisputed. He accomplished that feat against Spence, and it doesn't appear that he has much interest in fighting at welterweight again.
Crawford was stripped of the IBF title last November, elevating Jaron "Boots" Ennis to full champion. Brian Norman is the WBO interim welterweight champion and Eimantas Stanionis is the WBA "regular" welterweight titleholder.
