Sunday 23rd February - Nigel Price
Nigel is, without doubt, the hardest working jazz musician in the UK.
A guitarist, steeped in the traditions of the Blue Note era, his original influences came from guitarists such as Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass, which has led him to become synonymous with the sound of the Hammond organ trio, which he has recorded several albums with as leader. He also has links with the British Acid Jazz scene through his association with The James Taylor Quartet for 3 years, and a 10 year stint with The Filthy Six.
He has worked tirelessly to organise his own tours (including a 56 date tour in late 2016) and has picked up a Parliamentary Jazz Award (Best Jazz Ensemble - 2010), and a British Jazz Award (Best Guitarist - 2016), plus a host of other nominations along the way.
He is a regular fixture at Ronnie Scott's and often leads the late night jam sessions held at the club. In total he has played at Ronnie's over 500 times. He has also played at virtually every provincial jazz club in the country to rave reviews.
If his dedication to the British Jazz scene was ever in doubt, he also launched a personal crusade to keep The Swanage Jazz Festival alive in 2018, when it seemed that its demise was inevitable. Through his efforts, the festival is thriving again.
Nigel is probably one of the most gifted and dynamic guitarists on the scene today and any live show will not fail to leave you breathless with his faultless taste and fiery improvisation. He is joined tonight by Simon Carter on piano, Simon Thorpe on double-bass and Emiliano Caroselli on drums.
