The windows folder on C: drive on windows 10 is taking too much space. I have only 2 GB remaining after running all possible clean up tools and methods. I ran the task schedulers StartComponentCleanup tool, and Dism.exe as instructed in the msdocs.

I recently 'upgraded' to Windows 11 and the new File Explorer is now painfully slow when navigating the Dropbox folder. Simply navigating the hierarchy takes seconds and the Windows busy ring appears twice for each click.

I am running Win 11 Pro on a decent enough 8th gen Core i7 with 16GB RAM that coped just fine under Windows 10, I have 346443 files on my DB. the issue is limited to the Dropbox folder which is why I'm here and not on the MS forum.

Jay, thanks for getting back to me. Yes I remember switching to the 'early releases' nearly ten years ago when I was having trouble syncing more than 100k files (back in the days when this was a limitation). I have flicked the switch, installed the new (old) stable version (138.4.2392) and Dropbox is re-indexing everything. Once that's complete I shall reboot and let you know if things are better. Thanks again for your help, James

Thanks again for your support. Sadly the new (old / stable) version of Dropbox (138.4.2392) did not fix this issue. I allowed a full re-index, then rebooted but It still takes seconds (and two appearances of the Windows wait ring) to move up or down a folder in my Dropbox. Any other ideas? Thanks again for your help.

I just tested a theory by killing the Dropbox process; File manager navigations is still very slow. This makes me think that the issue is down to the Windows 11 upgrade and probably nothing to do with Dropbox. I'll try asking my question on the MS forum and I'll report back if there is a solution.

I reported this issue to Microsoft via the 'Feedback Hub' app about 24 hrs ago ( ) but, perhaps unsurprisingly, not heard anything yet. I've also been scouring the web for other solutions and the general consensus appears to be that it is a bug identified in an early beta of Windows 11 that was only partially fixed prior to release. This doesn't explain why there isn't a huge uproar about performance more generally (perhaps only a select few are affected). Microsoft themselves do not list this as a recognised bug on the Feedback Hub yet. I suspect the more people that report this to MS, the more chance there is of action so feel free of booting up that app and logging a bug too. One thing I have noted is that, while performance is laggy across the board, the performance of my Dropbox folder is noticeably worse. Will keep reporting back if there's any news!

I have shared a folder from my Dropbox account with a number of people. initially, my wife viewed the folder in my account on the windows app on her PC. However, recently, she needed to create a new folder to share with some other people, so created her own account to which the Windows app on her PC is now linked. She has access to my folder using a browser, but it isn't visible on her windows app.

Is she definitely using the same email on both accounts (i.e. the one on computer and browser?). Test it simply by adding a file to the root of \Dropbox on the computer. It should appear when she goes to the website.

Did this post not resolve your issue? If so please give us some more information so we can try and help - please remember we cannot see over your shoulder so be as descriptive as possible!

Thanks for your response. If she makes a change in one of her folders in her desktop app, they are apparent in her browser. I also know this, because, I can't see any of the files she has in her account (I haven't been granted access) either in my own windows app or in my browser view.

Thanks for replying. I am sure that I shared by inputting her email address, rather than sending a link. To be sure, I have just done it again and there is no change to what she sees in the Windows app

I've recently upgraded to new version 2020.40, and I noticed that the Windows folder is not recognizing the Alteryx filetype and was asking which available apps should be used. I accidently selected Adobe which appears as Adobe filetype in a window folder. Although, I'm still able to just open the Alteryx tool and open the workflow from the folder. Any help is appreciated!

You can change this in your window settings. Go to your Default apps/default programs. Select to choose by file type. Scroll down until you find file extensions associated with Alteryx (.yxmd, .yxwz, .yxzp, .yxi etc.). If you click on the program icon to the right, you can choose what you want to set it to.

I followed the instructions and found the locations tab in properties and clicked on move and identified my Downloads folder on Dropbox as the new location. I thought it had worked. However, the next time I downloaded something (I am still installing some software), the download went to a downloads folder on my C drive. This was even though I wasn't showing a folder called "Downloads" before I did that download.

So I went back to the properties folder of the download folder. But this time, there was no tab for "location" and, in any case, since it didn't work the first time, there is no reason to think it would work if I tried it again.

I don't think I was using the backup feature of Dropbox on my old machine. I had the Dropbox desktop app installed so there was automatically a copy of my files stored in the cloud. Are there additional features when one uses the Dropbox "Backup" option?

On my old Windows 10 and 7 computers, I had the downloads folder located in Dropbox for a long time and it worked perfectly, regardless of what I was downloading. A few upgrades ago it stops working, and have been impossible for me to get that functionality again. I upgrade my plan and things get worse; now they appear as backups and to see the files I have to log to

Hi everyone, I'm using Dropbox (firmware n. 166.3.2831) on my gaming laptop running Windows 11. Everything run smoothly until some days ago, when Dropbox suddenly became very slow when clicking to open folder or file: it takes MANY seconds (10-15 seconds at least). This causes a huge slowdown in the user experience, I can't even work in these circumstances.
Of course this is a problem related to the Dropbox folder only, local folders run as smooth as they should.
How can I fix that? Thanks.

EDIT: apparently there's a conflict between Dropbox and iCloud for Windows; deleting the latter, Dropbox app works.
