Also a reminder that if you raised more than $25,000 in donations last year, or if you pay someone to fundraise for you (basically, if you have any paid employees at all), you’ll need to register with the PA Bureau of Charitable Organizations. More information at http://www.dos.pa.gov/BusinessCharities/Charities/RegistrationForms/Pages/default.aspx
The registration form is the”BCO-10” form, and it’s surprisingly complicated so let me know if you need to file and I will walk you through it. If you file any “short” federal tax return, like a 990EZ or a 990 “postcard,” you will also need to file a “BCO-23.” Similarly, if you start any kind of intensive fundraising in another state, be aware that most states have their own filing requirements.
* The actual wording is that filing is required “within 30 days of receiving more than $25,000 in gross contributions or prior to compensating someone to solicit contributions from Pennsylvania residents.”
Let me know of any questions about any of this. Hope you’re doing well.
